A bad-looking or half dead tree or, worse, no tree at all, is a \u201creally scary signal to your kids because it\u2019s such a part of tradition,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how to secure a (nice) tree this Christmas:<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"If_youre_buying_a_real_tree_it_will_cost_you\"><\/span><strong>If you\u2019re buying a real tree, it will cost you<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<\/p>\n<p>Real trees are likely to get more expensive due to increasing costs such as fertilizer and labor. All 55 growers polled by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/realchristmastreeboard.com\/press-releases\/wholesale-growers-of-real-christmas-trees-offer-a-market-forecast-with-few-surprises\/\" class=\"icon none\">the Real Christmas Tree Board<\/a> \u2014 which covers about two-thirds of the U.S. market share in total \u2014 in August said their input costs had increased compared to last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>More than a third of growers said costs rose 11% to 15%, while more than a quarter of growers said costs rose by 16% to 20% compared to the previous year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To put that in context: The <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>n price for a real fir, pine or spruce tree for consumers last year was $69.50, according to a consumer survey by the National Christmas Tree Association, a national association representing Christmas tree growers. This was compared to the median price of an artificial tree at $70. (The trade group improved its methodology this year, so it did not provide comparable prices from previous years.)<\/p>\n<p>As a result, 71% of the polled growers expected wholesale prices to increase 5% to 15% compared to last year; 11% expect prices to rise 20% more, while the same percentage see prices rising no more than 5%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div data-layout=\"inline\n                \" data-layout-mobile=\"\" class=\"\n          media-object\n          type-InsetPullQuote\n            inline\n    scope-web|mobileapps\n  article__inset\n          article__inset--type-InsetPullQuote\n            article__inset--inline\n  \"><\/p>\n<div class=\"wsj-article-pullquote article__inset__pullquote \">\n<p class=\"pullquote-content article__inset__pullquote__quote\">\n        <span class=\"l-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--left\">\u201c<\/span>\u2018The real Christmas tree industry is bigger than any one farm, retailer, or region \u2014 and we\u2019ve never run out of trees.\u2019<span class=\"r-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--right\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>        <small><br \/>\n          <span class=\"inset-author article__inset__pullquote__author\">\u2014 Marsha Gray, executive director of the Real Christmas Tree Board<\/span><br \/>\n        <\/small><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       \u201cOf course, prices vary based on location and type of tree,\u201d Tim O\u2019Connor, executive director of National Christmas Tree Association, told MarketWatch.<\/p>\n<p> In addition to the potential increase in wholesale prices, transportation costs and other retail-related costs, including rent, energy and labor, could further push up the cost of trees this year, Harman said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>: The supply of real trees should be broadly in line with last year, said Marsha Gray, executive director of the Real Christmas Tree Board.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Although there have been reports of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/boston\/news\/2022\/08\/15\/scorching-heat-waves-brutal-for-mass-tree-farms.html??utm_source=sy&amp;utm_medium=lsyp&amp;utm_campaign=nbcboston&amp;utm_content=nbcboston\" class=\"icon none\">extreme weather affecting tree crops<\/a>, the Christmas tree industry is big and farms are scattered, Gray told MarketWatch. What\u2019s more, farmers use long-term strategies to account for short-term weather disruptions.<\/p>\n<p>The heat wave in the Pacific Northwest last year was unique for the industry. The inventory-to-sales ratio for <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> merchandise stores reached a 15-year high in the second quarter, meaning retailers were losing money sitting on unsold supplies.<\/p>\n<div data-layout=\"inline\n                \" data-layout-mobile=\"\" class=\"\n          media-object\n          type-InsetPullQuote\n            inline\n    scope-web|mobileapps\n  article__inset\n          article__inset--type-InsetPullQuote\n            article__inset--inline\n  \"><\/p>\n<div class=\"wsj-article-pullquote article__inset__pullquote \">\n<p class=\"pullquote-content article__inset__pullquote__quote\">\n        <span class=\"l-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--left\">\u201c<\/span>Consumers started online searches for artificial Christmas trees last summer, which is a lot earlier than usual.<span class=\"r-qt article__inset__pullquote__mark--right\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       \u201cIf you have a specific tree in mind that will make your holiday shine the brightest, we recommend shopping early to secure your ideal tree at the right price for your family,\u201d Jami Warner, executive Director of the American Christmas Tree Association, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p> Consumers started searching for artificial Christmas trees online last summer, a lot earlier than usual, said Dallin Hatch, head of communications at e-commerce accelerator Pattern. The search for artificial Christmas trees on Amazon<br \/>\n        AMZN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210331248\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.94%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       spiked in July and August, it said. Searches were up 60% in July on the year, and up 41% in August.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The spikes in searches coincided with news reports of drought and heat waves affecting tree farmers, Hatch said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven\u2019t seen consumers shopping in this volume for Christmas trees this early.
