\n Portland protesters aren\u2019t sweet on these frozen treats.<\/p>\n

Otter Pops, the classic summer snack, was hit with demands to boycott the brand after it backed out of an offer to donate the popsicles to protesters in support of the Black Lives Movement.<\/p>\n

The conflict popped up after a disabled Air Force veteran on Monday tweeted at the firm, asking if it backs the movement and would give him some of the treats to hand out to protesters amid a heatwave in the city, according to the Willamette Week.<\/p>\n

Otter Pops\u2019 Twitter<\/a> account quickly responded, \u201cWe 100% do. Send us a DM and we will see how we can help!\u201d<\/p>\n

But the next day the comment was deleted and the brand walked back its offer, saying an outside social media consultant hadn\u2019t been authorized to get \u201cpolitical.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe regret that an individual consultant hired by Otter Pops recently commented on a social media post that app<\/a>eared to align the brand with a political movement. We apologize if anyone was offended by that comment, which was not representative of our brand,\u201d the company tweeted in a statement.<\/p>\n

Some protesters were furious over the reneged-on offer \u2014 saying the ice pop brand doesn\u2019t deserve a lick of support from shoppers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will not bode well for you. I\u2019ve been eating Otter Pops since I was a little kid. Fed them to my kid. No more,\u201d one protester fumed on Twitter.<\/p>\n

Other Black Lives Matter supporters used the hashtag #boycottotterpops to urge folks not to buy them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I get home from this beach trip<\/a>. I\u2019m gonna kick off my shoes. Turn on the AC. And throw a box of @OtterPops in the trash,\u201d another critic wrote.<\/p>\n

The disabled vet, known only as D.C., now thinks the company reneged on its offer due to a conservative journalist, Andy Ngo, who tweeted that the company was \u201coffering to donate ice pops to the Portland antifa rioters,\u201d he told the outlet.<\/p>\n

In a statement to Willamette Week, the company said its response \u201cwas not a reaction to complaints or tweets from outside parties, it was made because Otter Pops does not align with any political group or organization.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOtter Pops supports the rights and freedoms granted to Americans,\u201d it added. \u201cOur core mission is to serve children and families.\u201d<\/p>\n
