Both groups are represented by the Air Line Pilots Association.<\/p>\n<p>Taken together, the developments at the nation&#8217;s three largest airlines show labor&#8217;s resolve to get the best possible contract while the airline industry is struggling with pilot shortages at smaller regional carriers. Pilots at Southwest, the nation&#8217;s fourth-biggest airline, are also negotiating a new contract.<\/p>\n<p>Pilots from several airlines have <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/travel-dallas-airlines-b2e70c0e1b903e01b026fdc64d743eba\" data-ylk=\"slk:picketed at airports\" class=\"link \">picketed at airports<\/a> in recent months, but federal law prohibits airline workers from striking unless federal mediators determine that further negotiations are pointless \u2014 which hasn&#8217;t h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened at any of the carriers. Even then, Congress and the president can intervene to stop a walkout.<\/p>\n<p>In 1997, President Bill Clinton ordered American Airlines pilots to keep flying <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1997\/02\/15\/business\/american-airline-pilots-strike-but-clinton-orders-them-back.html#:~:text=Invoking%20seldom%2Dused%20emergency%20powers,to%20disrupt%20air%20travel%20nationwide.\" data-ylk=\"slk:minutes after a strike deadline passed\" class=\"link \">minutes after a strike deadline passed<\/a>.
