OK, the metaphor is breaking down, but what we\u2019re trying to say is\u2026 jerks will be jerks??<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s been a lot of noise lately about whether\u00a0<strong>James Corden<\/strong> was rude to servers. After the owner of NYC\u2019s <strong>Balthazar<\/strong> gave him a very public ban, recounting a couple nasty incidents, there was a long back-and-forth of apology, non-apology, and denial. Meanwhile completely unrelated stories were starting to come out \u2014 and we got lots of hints from folks who worked on his show that he was an entitled a-hole there, too.<\/p>\n<p>Well, that all might have been just the tip of the iceberg\u2026\u00a0We expected more stories about diva behavior, but it didn\u2019t even occur to us he could be a joke thief!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <em>Halloween<\/em> Stars Say Jamie Lee Curtis Treated Them Like TRASH At Premiere<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday,\u00a0<strong>Ricky Gervais<\/strong> blasted the\u00a0<em>Late Late Show<\/em> host after hearing one of his own standup bits being done during his monologue. Corden was talking about\u00a0<strong>Elon Musk<\/strong> taking over\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a><\/strong> and joked:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhen you see Elon Musk talk about Twitter, he does this thing where he goes \u2018It\u2019s the town square.\u2019 But it isn\u2019t, because if someone puts up a poster in a town square that says \u2018guitar lessons available,\u2019 you don\u2019t get people in the town going \u2018I don\u2019t want to play the guitar! I wanna play the piano you piece of s**t!\u2019 But that sign wasn\u2019t for you, it was for somebody else, you don\u2019t have to get mad about all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It\u2019s a funny takedown of Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly, but we weren\u2019t sure how much it had to do with what Musk is doing. As it turns out, maybe that\u2019s because it was a joke from 2018, long before the billionaire emptied his pockets for the social media <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Folks noticed right away that it was basically the EXACT same joke Ricky told in his\u00a0<strong>Netflix<\/strong> special <em>Humanity<\/em>, in which he said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThey can be following me without me knowing, choose to read my tweet, and then take that personally. That\u2019s like going into a town square, seeing a big notice board and there\u2019s a notice \u2014 guitar lessons \u2014 and you go, \u2018but I don\u2019t f**king want guitar lessons\u2019. \u2018Fine, it\u2019s not for you then, just walk away. Don\u2019t worry about it!&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Yeah\u2026 See them spliced together (below):<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Plagiarism? I don\u2019t know what people are talking about, these two jokes by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JKCorden?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JKCorden<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rickygervais?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@rickygervais<\/a> are barely similar <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9kYOHiOiLj\">pic.twitter.com\/9kYOHiOiLj<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Paul Anthony (@PaulFI9) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PaulFI9\/status\/1587396813199495169?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 1, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Even Ricky agreed. He tweeted out a link to the video,\u00a0writing:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe bit about the town square advert for guitar lessons is brilliant <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"customEmoji lazyload\" style=\"margin-left: 3px; margin-right: 3px; vertical-align: middle; -webkit-box-shadow: none; -moz-box-shadow: none; box-shadow: none;\" width=\"16\" src=\"https:\/\/perezhilton.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-emoji-one\/icons\/1F602.png\" height=\"16\">\u201c<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>After a couple hours of ribbing, Corden apologized, writing:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cInadvertently told a brilliant Ricky Gervais joke on the show last night, obviously not knowing it came from him. It\u2019s brilliant, because it\u2019s a Ricky Gervais joke. You can watch all Ricky\u2019s excellent specials on Netflix. J x.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The <em>Late Late Show<\/em>\u2018s Twitter and <strong>YouTube<\/strong> accounts deleted the video btw. Because he was being blasted for stealing your joke? Well, not exactly. Gervais reasoned it probably wasn\u2019t Corden\u2019s fault, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cNo. I reckon one of the writers \u2018came up with it\u2019 for him. I doubt he would knowingly just copy such a famous stand up routine word for word like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Right\u2026 such a famous routine\u2026<\/p>\n<p>But the thing is, this isn\u2019t the first time he\u2019s been accused of lifting material off a fellow Brit comedian.\u00a0<strong>Noel Fielding<\/strong> may not be a household name in the US, known mostly for <em>The Great British Bakeoff<\/em>, but in the UK he\u2019s HUGE and has been for years. Years like 2017 when Corden was having a convo with\u00a0<strong>Matthew Broderick<\/strong> and dropped the gem of a bit:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIf someone tries to mug you \u2013 so someone comes up and goes: \u2018Give me your wallet, man,\u2019 just go: [whispered] \u2018You\u2019re never gonna believe what\u2019s happened.\u2019 If you just go: \u2018You\u2019ll never guess what?\u2019 They go like this, they go: \u2018What?\u2019 And it gives you time, you just bolt!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Which was similar to the\u00a0<em>Mighty Boosh<\/em> star\u2019s \u201cwhisper\u201d bit from Montreal\u2019s 2010 Just For Laughs Festival, in which he joked that the \u201crules\u201d of whispering were so strong that if you\u2019re being mugged, and you whisper \u201coi, mate\u201d he has to stop and respond, also in a whisper, \u201cWhat is it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ch-ch-check out the full thing at about the 4:30 mark (below):<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Noel Fielding - Whispers (Stand Up Comedy)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hUcKLxZVQro?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That was pointed out at the time as well. Noel himself quote tweeted a fan saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c@JKCorden totally stole the whisper thing from @noelfielding11\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cYes I believe this is my material x\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That video was also taken down. Though maybe Corden didn\u2019t think Noel was a big enough name that he had to make a public apology? Maybe he didn\u2019t want to draw attention to the habit of snagging bits from other British comics he thought his new Yank audience might not know?<\/p>\n<p>Hard to blame that one on a writer, seeing as it wasn\u2019t even in a monologue. That was impromptu!<\/p>\n<p>What do YOU think, Perezcious comedy fans?
