Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) got a boost this week when Libertarian candidate Marc Victor dropped out and threw his support behind the GOP nominee, handing Republicans a last-minute lifeline in a race that has narrowed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kelly has been considered the favorite to win reelection since Masters emerged from the early August primary battered and underfunded.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>But the wind has seemingly shifted and recent surveys show Masters gaining momentum at a crucial moment.<\/p>\n<p>Victor\u2019s announcement Tuesday added to the positive <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> for the Peter Thiel prot\u00e9g\u00e9. There are a lot of ballots out there, and if the Libertarian pulls a couple percent, it can have an impact,\u201d said Daniel Scarpinato, who served as a top aide to Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve seen that in Arizona in many cycles,\u201d he added, pointing to\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Arizona%27s_1st_Congressional_District_elections,_2012\">past congressional races<\/a>\u00a0where a Libertarian candidate has helped play spoiler.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, for example, the Libertarian candidate in Arizona\u2019s 1st Congressional District pulled in more than 15,000 votes \u2014\u00a0or 6,500 more than separated the Democratic and Republican candidates.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Victor\u2019s name, however, will remain on the ballot, meaning that he will still be a visible option for voters. And, as of Wednesday morning, more that 1 million voters have already returned their ballots since early voting began on Oct. 12.<\/p>\n<p>Some Republicans are skeptical the move by Victor will swing the race in Masters\u2019s direction \u2014\u00a0but they also argue it can\u2019t hurt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of Marc Victor\u2019s support comes from the fact that he\u2019s not Blake Masters or Mark Kelly. Him pulling out doesn\u2019t change that fact,\u201d said Barrett Marson, an Arizona-based GOP strategist. \u201cBut in an uber-close race, it will definitely be helpful. His announcement came a day after he and Masters met to discuss the possibility, with the Libertarian subsequently calling on his supporters to \u201cvote for Blake Masters.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we don\u2019t see eye-to-eye on everything, I feel very confident after that conversation that Blake Masters is going to do everything he possibly can to further the interests of the Live and Let Live Global Peace Movement,\u201d said Victor, pointing to an initiative he founded in 2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWill he likely do some things that I\u2019m not excited about? Yeah, I think so,\u201d Victor continued. \u201cIs he likely to do other things that I\u2019m very h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>y with? Yes. A former astronaut, he is a prolific fundraiser and has taken steps to distance himself from President Biden on some issues, including immigration.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Through Oct. 19, Kelly\u2019s campaign raised more than $81 million. By contrast, Masters raised only $10 million.\u00a0He has led in the race since Masters emerged from a contentious primary in early August.<\/p>\n<p>But the race has narrowed. Several recent polls have shown the race in a dead heat. According to the latest\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/epolls\/2022\/senate\/az\/arizona-senate-masters-vs-kelly-7390.html\">RealClearPolitics average<\/a>\u00a0of surveys, Kelly leads Masters by a 2.3-percentage point margin. And the nonpartisan election forecaster Cook Political Report last put the race back into its \u201ctoss-up\u201d column, a month after shifting it to \u201clean Democrat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the Senate Leadership Fund, which is run by allies of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), has not jumped back in with big dollars after pulling out of the state, other groups have. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz.<\/p>\n<p>The Kelly campaign dismissed the impact Tuesday\u2019s announcement would have on the race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith just one week to Election Day and nearly a million ballots already cast, Senator Kelly is proud of the broad coalition of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents who have come out in support of his re-election campaign,\u201d said Sarah Guggenheimer, a Kelly spokeswoman, in a statement. \u201cAfter Blake Masters spent the last year and a half sharing beliefs like giving tax handouts to billionaires and corporations while privatizing <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social<\/a> Security, instituting a national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest, and caving at the slightest sign of pressure to lie about the 2020 election, nothing can distract from his dangerous and harmful agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The main question is whether the Masters campaign can make Victor\u2019s decision to drop out count. As one Democratic operative with Arizona ties noted, it\u2019s too late to target Libertarian voters with messages on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, and a direct mail effort likely isn\u2019t feasible with the shrunken time frame. If the Masters campaign wants to spend their closing arguments talking up another guy in the race with actual paid dollars, that\u2019s one thing. That detracts from their ability to make a closing argument.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2022\/11\/01\/libertarian-u-s-senate-candidate-marc-victor-drops-out-race\/10655998002\/\">statement<\/a>, Masters called the endorsement \u201canother major boost of momentum.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarc Victor joins a growing list of Arizonans from across the political spectrum who are fed up with open borders, big government corruption, and rising crime,\u201d Masters said. \u201cWe are building a broad coalition to defeat the worst Senator in America. This is another major boost of momentum as we consolidate our support against the extreme and radical policies of Mark Kelly and Joe Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Nevertheless, Republicans are left to wish Victor had made this decision earlier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it had been two weeks ago, that would have been a lot nicer,\u201d Marson added.\u00a0\n<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
