after Nets suspension [Video]<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div>Kyrie Irving apologized Thursday for posting a documentary with antisemitic conspiracy theories and falsehoods on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>, a few hours after he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/nets-suspend-kyrie-irving-after-pg-doesnt-apologize-for-posting-antisemitic-video-234705678.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:was suspended five games without pay by the Brooklyn Nets;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">was suspended five games without pay by the Brooklyn Nets<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The apology, published on Instagram, came a little more than a week after the Nets star posted the offensive tweet, which has since been deleted.<\/p>\n<p>Irving conceded the video &#8220;contained some false anti-Semitic statements, narratives, and languages that were untrue and offensive to the Jewish Race\/Religion.&#8221; He went on to directly to apologize to the Jewish community, though he indicated there were some parts of the documentary he still agrees with.<\/p>\n<p>Irving&#8217;s full apology:<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\"><p>While doing research on YHWH, I posted a Documentary that contained some false anti-Semitic statements, narratives, and language that were untrue and offensive to the Jewish Race\/Religion, and I take full accountability and responsibly for my actions. I am grateful to have a big platform to share knowledge and I want to move forward by having an open dialogue to learn more and grow from this.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\">\n<p>To All Jewish families and Communities that are hurt and affected from my post, I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain, and I apologize. I initially reacted out of emotion to being unjustly labeled Anti-Semitic, instead of focusing on the healing process of my Jewish Brothers and Sisters that were hurt from the hateful remarks made in the Documentary. I want to clarify any confusion on where I stand fighting against Anti- semticism by apologizing for posting the documentary without context and a factual explanation outlining the specific beliefs in the Documentary I agreed with and disagreed with. I had no intentions to disrespect any Jewish cultural history regarding the Holocaust or perpetuate any hate. I am learning from this unfortunate event and hope we can find understanding between us all. I am no different than any other human being. I am a seeker of truth and knowledge, and I know who I Am.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Kyrie_Irving_repeatedly_defended_posting_antisemitic_video_before_apologizing\"><\/span>Kyrie Irving repeatedly defended posting antisemitic video before apologizing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Irving&#8217;s apology comes after a week-long firestorm from several corners of the NBA, at one previous attempt to make things right with a $500,000 donation <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JGreenblattADL\/status\/1588331942562263041?s=20&amp;t=BciAAp1BXd7pCwJsoHvHvQ\" data-ylk=\"slk:the Anti-Defamation League has since rejected\" class=\"link \">the Anti-Defamation League has since rejected<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The video contained a number of wildly problematic statements, including a fake quote from Adolf Hitler, whose name was misspelled.<\/p>\n<p>Among those criticizing Irving were <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/nets-owner-joe-tsai-condemns-kyrie-irvings-tweeting-antisemitic-video-044809514.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Nets owner Joseph Tsai;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">Nets owner Joseph Tsai<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/nba-commissioner-adam-silver-disappointed-by-kyrie-irvings-failure-to-offer-unqualified-apology-153923421.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:NBA commissioner Adam Silver;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">NBA commissioner Adam Silver<\/a> and a number of former NBA players, including Charles Barkley, Shaquille O&#8217;Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Amar&#8217;e Stoudemire, Irving&#8217;s old assistant coach. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NetsDaily\/status\/1586146929293070340\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Nets\" class=\"link \">The Nets<\/a>, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NBAPR\/status\/1586495564400713728\" data-ylk=\"slk:NBA\" class=\"link \">NBA<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheNBPA\/status\/1587537249515642880\" data-ylk=\"slk:National Basketball Players Association\" class=\"link \">National Basketball Players Association<\/a>, of which Irving is a vice president, also released statements condemning hate and antisemitism, but didn&#8217;t mention Irving by name.<\/p>\n<p>Irving <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/kyrie-irving-addresses-tweet-the-anti-semitic-label-that-is-being-pushed-on-me-is-not-justified-194352260.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:initially disregarded accusations of antisemitism and claimed tweeting the documentary to his 4.6 million followers wasn't akin to promoting it;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">initially disregarded accusations of antisemitism and claimed tweeting the documentary to his 4.6 million followers wasn&#8217;t akin to promoting it<\/a>, but the situation boiled over Thursday morning during a disastrous meeting with reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Directly asked, yes or no, if he had any antisemitic beliefs, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/does-kyrie-irving-hold-antisemitic-beliefs-i-cannot-be-antisemitic-if-i-know-where-i-come-from-165854413.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Irving did not say no;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\">Irving did not say no<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, he said &#8220;I cannot be antisemitic if I know where I come from,&#8221; echoing one of a narrative of the documentary. That moment, and a few others, led to the biggest wave of criticism yet against Irving, and the suspension from the Nets soon followed.<\/p>\n<p>Irving&#8217;s apology will likely not lead to the Nets rescinding the suspension, and the team said in its statement announcing the suspension that he will have have to satisfy &#8220;a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of objective remedial measures that address the harmful impact of his conduct.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The apology that followed is a first step, but many fans will wonder why it couldn&#8217;t have come days earlier.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"caas-figure\">\n<div class=\"caas-figure-with-pb\" style=\"max-height: 828px\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"caas-img-container caas-img-loader\" style=\"padding-bottom:67%;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"caas-img caas-lazy has-preview\" alt=\"Brooklyn Nets&amp;#39; Kyrie Irving during the first half of an NBA preseason basketball game against the Milwaukee Bucks Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022, in Milwaukee.
