Women are posing topless while hiking on mountaintops in a social<\/a>-media trend, all in the name of empowerment.<\/p>\n

The movement, which has been around since 2015, has surged in recent months, according to a new report from The Denver Post.<\/p>\n

After reaching the mountaintop, female hikers will strip<\/a> down and look out on the vista, and have a friend take a shot of them from behind. It\u2019s especially prevalent in the mountain-filled backdrops of Colorado, where going topless is legal.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels fun, exciting and maybe a little risky to be naked in nature,\u201d Kari Armstrong, who runs a women\u2019s hiking club, told the Colorado-based news<\/a> outlet. \u201cWhen you have worked hard for your hike, or even if you haven\u2019t, it is fun to do something a little silly and liberating to celebrate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was a big, important moment for me,\u201d Kelli Schulte said, after climbing a 14,000-foot-high mountain while going through a breakup. \u201cWith every step, I felt empowered. Like I was taking control of my life. Like I could and would be me again.\u201d<\/p>\n

She asked her hiking companion to play photographer. \u201cI \u2026 said, \u2018I\u2019m taking one of those topless pics, and I\u2019m never giving up the things I love again.\u2019 Then I snapp<\/a>ed a couple of pics and I absolutely love them,\u201d she said. Schulte framed the photo in her bathroom as inspiration.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s freeing and exhilarating,\u201d commented Coral Scherma, who surprised herself by wanting to take a nature nude. \u201cMen are out there hiking with their shirts off all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt empowering,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
