Discovery. This entertainment industry influx \u2014 which is bringing an estimated 7,500 to 9,500 jobs to the city of 40,000 \u2014 is now amping up the restaurant business there, especially as more employees return to office life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cI had two emails from Apple today about [booking] dinners,\u201d says chef Akasha Richmond of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.akasharestaurant.com\/\">Akasha restaurant<\/a>, which opened in 2008. \u201cOne for 90 people and another person emailed about a dinner for 27.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    At lunch hour, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/platformlosangeles.com\/\">Platform LA <\/a>\u2014 a 6-year-old boutique mall that includes stores and restaurants \u2014 is packed with entertainment staffers, says Patrizio Spagnoletto, global CMO at Warner Bros. Discovery. \u201cIt\u2019s the stomping ground of people who are in the industry. It feels like a mini-Hollywood outside of Hollywood,\u201d he says. \u201cI always recognize a lot of people who are there from Amazon and Apple. If I had a confidential conversation [I needed to have], I would not go there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Kate Arend, head of production at Amy Poehler\u2019s Culver City-based Paper Kite production company, adds: \u201cCulver is the spot! We invite everyone to come to us for something new. She is a fan of \u201cevery pizza, every salad, everything\u201d at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.robertaspizza.com\/culver-city\">Roberta\u2019s<\/a> Italian restaurant (an offshoot of the Brooklyn version) at Platform LA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Historically, industry folks who worked in the area had only \u201csix or seven standard restaurants,\u201d says Anne Woodward, partner at Culver City-based Authentic Talent and Literary Management.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    But now, Woodward says, choices abound. \u201cIt\u2019s great,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s a different city than it was nine years ago. I always try to get people to come to me \u2014 so having better options definitely works in my favor.\u201d Woodward \u2014 whose favorite spots in Culver City include <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/destroyer.la\/\">Destroyer<\/a> cafe (for a \u201ccoffee and a cookie at 4 o\u2019clock\u201d) and Mediterranean restaurant <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.margot.la\/\">Margot<\/a> at Platform LA \u2014 also often runs into people at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonmarketanddeli.com\/\">Jackson Market<\/a>, an unassuming deli tucked into a residential neighborhood on a street south of Sony Pictures Studios, which has called Culver City home since the Japanese conglomerate acquired the historic MGM lot in 1990.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Other shiny new developments in Culver City include<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ivystationculvercity.com\/\"> Ivy Station<\/a> \u2014 home to not only HBO but also to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ettarestaurant.com\/\">Etta restaurant<\/a> and the year-old <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hyatt.com\/en-US\/hotel\/california\/the-shay\/laxdi\">The Shay<\/a> hotel \u2014 and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/theculversteps.com\/\">The Culver Steps<\/a>, which is expected to get an Erewhon market soon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    At <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dearjohnsbar.com\/\">Dear John\u2019s<\/a> \u2014 an iconic Hollywood watering hole near the 405 Freeway that was relaunched in 2019 by chefs Hans R\u00f6ckenwagner and Josiah Citrin \u2014 regulars are often execs from Amazon, Sony and Apple, says co-owner and Hans\u2019 wife, Patti R\u00f6ckenwagner. Celebrity fans of the intimate place include Christopher Guest, Jodie Foster, Sharon Stone, Jennifer Grey, John Stamos, Tiffany Haddish, Rian Johnson and Jamie Lee Curtis, who provided the voice for the eatery\u2019s voicemail message and has a table named for her. She\u2019s a fan of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fiish.co\/\">Fiish<\/a>, a sushi restaurant at Platform LA that focuses on sustainably caught seafood and dry-ages its fish. It also offers vegan nigiri options.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Fiish chef and partner Colin Whitbread says the presence of nearby streaming companies has been a boon for business. \u201cWe\u2019re strategically placed probably better here at the Platform than a lot of other businesses, just because HBO is so close and Apple is literally across the street,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of this byproduct I did not expect. I\u2019m really thankful for HBO and Apple. Their business has been important \u2014 sometimes [we do] almost 100 [seatings] just for lunch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The management at Etta \u2014 where dishes range from pastas and wood-fired pizzas to a $175 stuffed lobster \u2014 agrees that there\u2019s an undeniable new-media effect on the dining scene. \u201cBecause we are a neighborhood restaurant, Culver City has really taken a liking to us,\u201d says Josh Baca, Etta\u2019s director of event sales. \u201cAnd it\u2019s great for us because all of our neighbors \u2014 whether it be Warner Bros. Washington Blvd.]. They actually make proper old-school drinks. And I have a weakness for <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.robertaspizza.com\/culver-city\">Roberta\u2019s<\/a> [8810 Washington Blvd.] because their Bee Sting pizza with the honey is so good. Last one: how could I forget <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/honeyskettle.com\/\">Honey\u2019s Kettle<\/a> [9537 Culver Blvd.]?
