Well here\u2019s something surprising \u2013 Ben Affleck<\/strong>\u2018s Batman will return for\u00a0The Flash<\/em><\/strong>. The film is said to deal with the multiverse, and it was previously reported that Michael Keaton<\/strong>\u2018s Batman would be featured in the film in some capacity. Now, in keeping with the topsy-turvy rules of the multiverse, it looks like Affleck\u2019 Batman is involved as well.<\/p>\n

We previously reported the news<\/a> that Michael Keaton\u2019s Batman would be back for\u00a0The Flash<\/em>, news that surprised pretty much everyone. But it looks like the surprising news about\u00a0The Flash<\/em> is just getting started, because Vanity Fair says that Ben Affleck\u2019s Batman is\u00a0also<\/em> returning for the film. How can there be more than one Batman in a movie? Well,\u00a0The Flash<\/em> is said to be drawing on the\u00a0Flashpoint<\/em> comics run, which involves the multiverse. So you can expect to see Affleck\u2019s Batman and Keaton\u2019s Batman both interact with Ezra Miller<\/strong>\u2018s\u00a0Barry Allen, AKA The Flash.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Affleck\u2019s] Batman has a dichotomy that is very strong which is his masculinity\u2014because of the way he looks, and the imposing figure that he has, and his jawline \u2014but he\u2019s also very vulnerable,\u201d said The Flash<\/em> director Andy Muschietti<\/strong>. \u201cHe knows how to deliver from the inside out, that vulnerability. He just needs a story that allows him to bring that contrast, that balance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Muschietti added:<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck\u2019s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven\u2019t seen before. It\u2019s Barry\u2019s movie, it\u2019s Barry\u2019s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that\u2019s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That\u2019s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Muchietti also called Affleck\u2019s Batman \u201cthe baseline\u201d and\u201dpart of that unaltered state before we jump into Barry\u2019s adventure.\u201d This makes it sound like the film will start off featuring Affleck\u2019s Batman, only to then end up with Keaton\u2019s Batman. Full details about Keaton\u2019s part aren\u2019t known yet, but Muschietti confirms the actor has a \u201csubstantial\u201d role in the film. Other rumors indicate that Keaton\u2019s Batman could turn into the Nick Fury of the DCEU \u2013 a mentor-figure popping up in other movies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As for\u00a0The Flash<\/em>, Muschietti says: \u201cThis movie is a bit of a hinge in the sense that it presents a story that implies a unified universe where all the cinematic iterations that we\u2019ve seen before are valid. It\u2019s inclusive in the sense that it is saying all that you\u2019ve seen exists, and everything that you will see exists, in the same unified multiverse.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is all pretty damn cool, I have to admit. I love the idea of seeing Keaton\u2019s Batman again, and while I\u2019m not a fan of\u00a0Batman v Superman<\/em> or\u00a0Justice League<\/em>, I do think Affleck did a good job as Batman\/Bruce Wayne.<\/p>\n

The Flash<\/em> is set to run into theaters\u00a0June 3, 2022<\/strong>. We\u2019re bound to learn more about the film this weekend during the DC Fandome.<\/p>\n
