Besides Havoc, the Queens-raised rapper\u2019s sixth LP also features appearances from Nas and Lloyd Banks.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <em>HipHopDX<\/em> around the release of the album, Cormega explained how he and Havoc came to collaborate on \u201cEssential.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit300\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI think most of the credit for that belongs to\u00a0Havoc, because that beat just does something,\u201d Cormega said about the Mobb Deep rapper and producer. \u201cThat beat is amazing. And that has a nostalgic feel. The thing I love about that beat, it has a nostalgic feel yet it has a modern feel too. So it doesn\u2019t feel like, \u2018Oh man, he\u2019s trying to redo such and such.\u2019\u00a0I just wanted to tap into that part of me that made people gravitate towards me when I made\u00a0<i data-stringify-type=\"italic\">The Realness<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I started really taking evaluation of the songs that people really liked and I knew how it had to come, so when I got that beat, that beat just \u2026 I knew I had to come up with some heaviness on there, and I said I want to drop jewels on it but I also wanted to give people the street n-gga because that\u2019s another thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit400\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Cormega then went on to talk about the connection between an artist\u2019s environment and the music they make.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always tell people, art is a reflection of their environment, and so I\u2019m not the same person that was in the street like that,\u201d Cormega told <em>DX<\/em>. \u201cI\u2019m a different person. I\u2019m a father, I\u2019m a businessman. I\u2019m many other things but the mindset and all the stuff that I\u2019ve been through, I\u2019ve seen so much and experienced so much that I could write about that any time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the music and their words was a perfect marriage, but I also, especially in this day and time, I wanted to have something that people could gravitate to and get jewels from and I wanted to make \u2026 the whole album was for people from my generation and the generation a little before me. The people that really, when they first heard Hip Hop, they fell in love with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Havoc\u2019s luxurious lifestyle has been helped on in recent years because of the royalties he continues to receive from his and late rhyme partner Prodigy\u2019s music being featured in Eminem\u2019s movie <em>8 Mile<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit500\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Queensbridge-bred producer and lyricist said he was \u201ctaken back\u201d when he first saw the iconic scene of Em\u2019s B-Rabbit character freestyling over Mobb Deep\u2019s \u201cShook Ones\u201d instrumental in the 2002 film.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean I was really taken back because I didn\u2019t even know if Eminem was a fan,\u201d Havoc told <em>DX<\/em> on the BET Hip Hop Awards red carpet. \u201cSo to hear that, I found out he was a fan and then the cha-ching sound went off in my head. It bought this Fendi sweater.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mobb Deep\u2019s Prodigy passed away from complications due to sickle-cell anemia in 2017.
