tropic\u00e1lia movement and <i>m\u00fasica popular brasileira<\/i> at large, has died, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/caribbean-brazil-obituaries-caetano-veloso-0c85c3055d1c9f75a8e513c8504b5eb0\/\">the Associated Press reports<\/a>. Her cause of death has yet to be revealed, but she cancelled her performance at Primavera S\u00e3o Paulo this past weekend after undergoing nasal surgery. She was 77.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            Born Maria da Gra\u00e7a Costa Penna Burgos in Salvador, the capital city of the Brazilian state of Bahia, in 1945, Costa met Sandra and Andr\u00e9ia Gadelha \u2014 the sisters who\u2019d go on to marry tropic\u00e1lia pioneers Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso, respectively \u2014 when she was 10 years old. She met both songwriters when she was 18, and made her live debut alongside them the same year. She collaborated with Veloso to release her first studio album, <i>Domingo<\/i>, in 1967, and their duet \u201cBaby\u201d was first featured on the canonical compilation album <i>Tropic\u00e1lia: ou Panis et Circencis<\/i> in 1968. (Despite its outsize influence on popular culture worldwide, most agree the antifascist artistic and political movement lasted only five years, fizzling in 1972.) Its cover art, which features a photograph of Costa from the waste down in a bikini bottom and an indigenous Brazilian skirt, was band by the country\u2019s military dictatorship at the time of its release. <\/p>\n<p>            She\u2019d go on to release at least 30 more studio albums, as well as eight live LPs, over the course of her long and fruitful career. In 2011, the Latin Grammys honored her with a lifetime achievement award. Her most recent project, 2021\u2019s <i>Nenhuma Dor<\/i>, comprised duetted versions of 10 Brazilian standards, among them a rendition of \u201cBaby\u201d with Tim Bernardes.<\/p>\n<p>            Upon <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> of Costa\u2019s passing, a legion of former collaborators and fans took to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> to pay tribute.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            \u201cOur little sister is gone,\u201d Gilberto Gil <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gilbertogil\/status\/1590385218195984385\/\">wrote<\/a> in Portuguese. \u201cSo many people in Brazil were enchanted by her singing.
