Lisa Murkowski and GOP challenger Kelly Tshibaka, will reach 50%, according to NBC <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">However the contest eventually shakes out, the seat will remain in GOP hands. The ranked-choice voting system allows voters to rank candidates in order of preference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In ranked-choice elections, voters identify first choices on their ballots, then rank the other candidates in order of preference. If no candidate receives a majority of first-choice votes on the first count, the election moves to an instant runoff. The candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and ballots cast for that candidate are recast for voters\u2019 second choices. The process repeats until a candidate reaches a majority.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In 2020, Alaska voters <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/election-2020-alaska-legislature-state-elections-general-elections-387ba5f6b3ab79bb841bc5c29c8bceee\">approved<\/a> a move to nonpartisan primaries that send the top four vote-getters to ranked choice <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> elections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Along with Murkowski and Tshibaka, Democrat Patricia Chesbro and Republican Buzz Kelley advanced from the August primary \u2014 although Kelley<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/2022-midterm-elections-sarah-palin-donald-trump-general-campaigns-8b1b8dc64c4b2022e63f39e3fd359249\"> dropped out of the race in September and endorsed <\/a>Tshibaka. However, he still <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared on the ballot and drew votes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Advocates of ranked choice have said the setup benefits moderate candidates who don\u2019t play to either party\u2019s fringe and work instead to appeal to the broadest group of people \u2014 which some political watchers said would end up benefiting Murkowski, because she holds wider appeal to Democrats and independents, who could then pick her as their second choice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Murkowski, who is seeking her fourth full term, drew former President Donald Trump\u2019s ire when she <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.murkowski.senate.gov\/press\/release\/murkowski-votes-to-convict-president-donald-j-trump\">voted to convict him<\/a> in his second impeachment trial, believing he incited the deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. He began calling Murkowski the \u201cdisaster from Alaska\u201d and later endorsed Tshibaka to challenge her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In his June 2021 endorsement \u2014 14 months before the August primary \u2014 Trump boosted Tshibaka as \u201cthe candidate who can beat Murkowski\u201d and \u201ca fighter who stands for Alaska values and America First.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Tshibaka, who has questioned the 2020 presidential election results, led Alaska\u2019s Department of Administration from early 2019 until last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Trump won Alaska by 10 percentage points in the 2020 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Tshibaka made waves by vowing not to support another Trump foil, Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., for another term as the Senate\u2019s GOP leader if she is elected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Murkowski, who has served in the Senate since 2003, has proven to be a moderate willing to work with Democrats. She was one of only three Republicans who voted to confirm Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson in April. She has bucked her party in other big votes, as well, voting with Democrats on such major issues as their effort to block the GOP\u2019s attempts to repeal Obamacare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/host2.adimpact.com\/admo\/viewer\/77c9b23e-d78b-4192-bd7b-0cd86ffa926a\">recent campaign ad<\/a> summing up her closing argument, Murkowski vowed to \u201cwork with anyone, from either party, to advance Alaska\u2019s priorities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"endmark\"><strong>CORRECTION<\/strong> (Nov. 9, 2022, 8:48 p.m. ET): A previous version of this article misstated when Alaska voters\u00a0approved\u00a0a move to nonpartisan primaries and ranked choice general elections.
