\n Goodyear Tire Chief Executive Rich Kramer said Thursday the company had clarified its policy to make clear employees can wear app<\/a>arel expressing support for law enforcement after it faced a boycott call from President Trump.<\/p>\n

The Republican president, who is seeking a second term in office, told reporters Wednesday he would swap out the Goodyear tires on his presidential limousine if there were an alternative.<\/p>\n

Goodyear on Thursday said it had a longstanding policy of asking employees of refraining from working place expressions of support for any political candidates.<\/p>\n

Trump accused the Ohio-based company of \u201cplaying politics\u201d by forbidding workers from donning the \u201cMake America Great Again\u201d caps favored by his supporters.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t buy GOODYEAR TIRES \u2013 They announced a BAN ON MAGA HATS,\u201d he wrote on Twitter<\/a> Wednesday, referring to his slogan \u201cMake America Great Again\u201d often emblazoned on baseball caps.<\/p>\n

Trump said it was \u201cdisgraceful\u201d that the company would prevent employees from wearing attire supporting the \u2018Blue Lives Matter\u2019 movement that supports law enforcement, while allowing support for other causes.<\/p>\n

Goodyear said a widely circulated image created by a plant employee that triggered the controversy was not created or distributed by the company\u2019s corporate group.<\/p>\n

The image spelled out appropriate and inappropriate displays, with \u2018Black Lives Matter\u2019 and \u2018Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride\u2019 deemed acceptable, while \u2018Blue Lives Matter\u2019 and \u2018MAGA Attire\u2019 were not.<\/p>\n

Kramer said Goodyear \u201cstrongly supports\u201d law enforcement noting it has supplied tires to police and fire vehicles for more than 100 years. \u201cThat relationship is foundational to our company,\u201d Kramer wrote employees Thursday. \u201cGoodyear has always supported both law enforcement and equal justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shares in Goodyear fell as much as 6 percent on Wednesday after Trump\u2019s tweet, but pared some losses to close down 2.4 percent. Goodyear shares fell 0.4 percent Thursday to $9.46.<\/p>\n

The White House did not comment on Goodyear\u2019s new statement, but White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow earlier defended the boycott call, saying Goodyear should change its workplace policy to allow political speech.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
