They point out odd rivets and characteristics, but can\u2019t pin down what they\u2019re looking at.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefinitely an aircraft. I think we need to talk to NASA,\u201d one of the divers says.<\/p>\n<p>After reviewing the footage, the space agency confirmed the artifact once belonged to the shuttle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile it has been nearly 37 years since seven daring and brave explorers lost their lives aboard Challenger, this tragedy will forever be seared in the collective memory of our country,\u201d NASA Administrator gives us an opportunity to pause once again, to uplift the legacies of the seven pioneers we lost, and to reflect on how this tragedy changed us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Challenger took off on its doomed journey from Cape Canaveral space station Jan. 28, 1986, and exploded just 73 seconds after liftoff.<\/p>\n<p>The malfunction killed the seven passengers on board: six astronauts \u2014 Michael J. Smith, Francis R. \u201cDick\u201d Scobee, Ronald E. McNair, Ellison S. Onizuka, Gregory B. Jarvis and Judith A. Resnik \u2014 and New Hampshire high school teacher Christa McAuliffe. The event was televised and watched in classrooms across the planet.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"embed-wrapper twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">What they uncover off the coast of Florida, outside of the Triangle, marks the first discovery of wreckage from the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger in more than 25 years.
