Officials <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarkcountynv.gov\/government\/departments\/elections\/services\/mail__absentee_ballot_voting.php\">sent mail-in ballots to \u201cactive\u201d registered voters<\/a> unless they opted out, and mail ballots that arrive before Saturday at 5 p.m. local time will be counted, as long as they were postmarked by Election Day<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Additionally, voters whose mail ballot signatures did not match state records have until Monday evening to \u201ccure\u201d their signature so their votes can be counted. Provisional ballots won\u2019t be counted until next week. Election officials are still processing tens of thousands of ballots they already received, with many expected to be Democratic-leaning.<\/p>\n<p>If those expectations hold accurate, Republican Senate nominee Adam Laxalt\u2019s roughly 16,000-vote lead and Republican gubernatorial nominee Joe Lombardo\u2019s roughly 34,000-vote lead could shrink or perhaps give Democrats victories.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever the outcome, Nevada\u2019s Senate race holds key implications for control of the upper chamber.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If Democrats or Republicans win both of the two remaining races up for grabs \u2014 Arizona and Nevada \u2014 they win a majority. If the two races split, Georgia\u2019s runoff election next month will become the pinnacle contest.<\/p>\n<p>Counting in Arizona is also expected to stretch into next week.<\/p>\n<p>As votes keep trickling in, here are two key Nevada counties to watch:<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Clark_County\"><\/span><strong>Clark County<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Clark County, which includes Las Vegas and the southernmost part of the state, comprises nearly 73 percent of Nevada\u2019s population, the highest proportion of a state\u2019s population of any county in the country. <\/p>\n<p>Due to its reliably blue electorate, The Nevada Independent\u2019s Jon Ralston has <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thenevadaindependent.com\/article\/the-early-voting-blog-2022\">called the county the \u201cClark Dem firewall.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarkcountynv.gov\/government\/departments\/elections\/past_elections.php\">won the county by nearly 11 points<\/a> in 2016, and President Biden by 9 points in 2020.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>But as of Thursday afternoon, Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D) only leads Laxalt by 5 points in the county, and Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) leads Lombardo there by 3 points.<\/p>\n<p>Joe Gloria, Clark County\u2019s registrar of voters, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ClarkCountyNV\/status\/1590793142613463040\">said at a Thursday press conference<\/a> that just more than 50,000 ballots remain uncounted, all of which are mail ballots, and he expects most will be reported by Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are hoping those mail votes will improve their margins and outweigh the GOP\u2019s current lead, along with remaining gains in red, rural counties.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Clark County is reporting new votes nightly, and Wednesday evening\u2019s batch of 14,092 ballots broke for Democrats by a roughly 2-to-1 margin.<\/p>\n<p>But Gloria said counting will stretch into next week, because ballots can still arrive in the mail through Saturday \u2014 626 were received on Thursday alone \u2014 and 7,155 Clark voters have until Monday to \u201ccure\u201d their mismatched mail ballot signature. Another 5,555 provisional ballots have yet to be rectified for other reasons. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are statutory deadlines here that prevent me from finishing any earlier than the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> public or you, the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>, would like to see us work,\u201d Gloria said. \u201cI can\u2019t stop until Saturday for the mail. I can\u2019t stop until Monday for the cure. I can\u2019t count provisionals until next Wednesday at the earliest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite Democrats\u2019 recent gains in the latest Clark County vote batch, Laxalt was skeptical she could take the lead. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf the 84,000 votes left to count in Clark County, Cortez Masto could win 63% of them and she would still lose,\u201d Laxalt <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AdamLaxalt\/status\/1590708600171016197\">tweeted Thursday morning<\/a>. \u201cThat doesn\u2019t even take into account the gains we will make from rural counties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast night went exactly as we anticipated,\u201d Laxalt continued. \u201cWe added 3K from the rurals and more are coming. She added some Clark County mail. We expect the remaining mail universe to fall well below the percentage she needs to catch us. No status change.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Washoe_County\"><\/span><strong>Washoe County<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Washoe County, which encompasses Reno and stretches north to the Oregon-Nevada border, is the state\u2019s only other county that former President Trump lost in both 2016 and 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Biden <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washoecounty.gov\/voters\/reporting_and_statistics\/past-election-information\/electionresults\/index.php\">won the county by 5 percentage points<\/a>, and Hillary Clinton won there by just 1 point, making Washoe a key battleground in the swing state.<\/p>\n<p>Washoe also is Nevada\u2019s second-most populous county, comprising nearly 16 percent of the population, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates. Combined with Clark, nearly 9 in 10 state residents live in the two counties.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Washoe\u2019s reported results so far show a nearly even split. Cortez Masto leads Laxalt by 0.2 percent in Washoe, while Lombardo leads Sisolak by 2 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Like Clark, Washoe also has yet to report tens of thousands of mail ballots.<\/p>\n<p>The county\u2019s data <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/electionresults.washoecounty.gov\/\">shows it has received 102,470 mail ballots<\/a> so far, but Washoe has only reported the results of 60,828 of those votes.<\/p>\n<p>Washoe election officials <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/washoelife.washoecounty.gov\/washoe-county\/washoe-county-reports-62-percent-turnout-through-election-day-continues-to-receive-large-volume-of-mail-ballots\/\">said in a Thursday statement<\/a> that a \u201csmall update\u201d will be posted in the evening, but the \u201cbulk\u201d of the ballots will be reported on Friday.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cMy focus is to count ballots accurately, not quickly,\u201d\u00a0Washoe County interim Registrar Jamie Rodriguez said.<\/p>\n<p>Washoe officials indicated Thursday\u2019s delivery of new mail ballots exceeded expectations, reaching roughly 4,500 new ballots.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Roughly 1,400 ballots in the county are awaiting a signature cure, an additional few hundred \u201csuspended\u201d ballots will be processed after others are tabulated and a further few hundred are damaged and will be duplicated by a bipartisan board for counting, officials said.\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
