\n A mural for George Floyd at the Minneapolis intersection where he died in police custody has been vandalized, according to a report.<\/p>\n

The massive work of art at the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue was covered with a blue tarp late Wednesday after officials said a vandal sprayed black paint over Floyd\u2019s face and eyes, WCCO-TV reported Thursday.<\/p>\n

Residents are now looking for an artist to restore the mural, the outlet said.<\/p>\n

The mural, which showed a likeness of Floyd with his name and a backdrop of a sunflower on a blue background, had become the central feature in a memorial that sprouted up at the intersection following his May 25 death in Minneapolis police custody.<\/p>\n

Police bodycam footage shows police question Floyd over a counterfeit $20 bill he allegedly tried to use at a local store \u2014 and later died while being pinned down by cops despite repeatedly pleading, \u201cI can\u2019t breathe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The four officers \u2014 including Derek Chauvin, who is seen with his knee pinned to the back of Floyd\u2019s neck \u2014 were fired the following day and now face criminal charges in his death.<\/p>\n

The Minneapolis tribute mural to Floyd wasn\u2019t the only one in the North Star State targeted by vandals this week.<\/p>\n

Another mural in Rochester, Minnesota \u2014 about 90 miles south of Minneapolis \u2014 was also defaced, KIMT-TV reported Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Artist Willow Gentile, who painted that mural, called the vandalism \u201cheartwrenching\u201d and \u201creally like a slap in the face,\u201d the outlet said.<\/p>\n

But Gentile said she\u2019s organizing a community painting session to restore his work.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need so many more positives to combat that negative,\u201d she said. \u201cI hope people realize you really need to stick together to make actions really stay present.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
