Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er and music producer Ruby Ibarra has been named a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/vilcek.org\/prizes\/prize-recipients\/ruby-ibarra\/\">recipient<\/a> of the 2023 Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Music by the Vilcek Foundation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ibarra is recognized for her \u201cpersonal and evocative hip hop and spoken word performances that center her experiences as a Filipina American woman, and as an immigrant growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and for her powerful lyrics that address colonialism, immigration, colorism, and misogyny.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise award \u201chonor[s] immigrant professionals whose early-career work demonstrates a singular innovation, or represents a significant contribution to their field.\u201d The three recipients will each <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/vilcek.org\/prizes\/vilcek-prizes-for-creative-promise\/creative-promise-prizes-arts\/\">receive<\/a> a cash award of $50,000.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a 2021 profile by the US-based show <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/tmrw\/vaccine-scientist-day-rapper-night-how-ruby-ibarra-defying-stereotypes-t218167\">TODAY<\/a>, <\/em>the rapper, scientist, and activist shares her work in the bio<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> industry researching to find a cure for COVID-19 at the height of the pandemic. She is also the co-founder of the Pinays Rising Scholarship program, which was inspired by her hit single, \u201cUs,\u201d and \u201cprovides scholarships of $500 to empower Filipina and Filipinx youth pursuing higher education. Since its establishment, Pinays Rising has awarded more than 30 scholarships each year to young students and activists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise honor immigrant professionals whose early-career work demonstrates a singular innovation, or represents a significant contribution to their field.
