With a long history as one of the world\u2019s top financial capitals, this is a costly place to live.The city tied for 17th place with Helsinki, a notoriously expensive location, in the Economist Intelligence Unit\u2019s (EIU) Worldwide Cost of Living index in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The index is compiled by comparing prices in US dollars for goods and services in 173 global cities. While this is just one indication that London is a pricey place to live and work, there are plenty of others.<\/p>\n<p>A <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.spareroom.co.uk\/in-defence-of-living-rooms\/\">2019 survey from SpareRoom<\/a> found that 33% of people aged 20 to 30 living in the city didn\u2019t have access to a living room. Rental costs are rocketing, says property website Rightmove: in July this year, average monthly rent in London reached an all-time high of \u00a32,257, or 11.8% higher than last year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inarticle-wrapper channel-cta\">\n<div class=\"ica-text\">\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Join_TNW_in_Valencia\"><\/span>Join TNW in Valencia!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The heart of tech is coming to the heart of the Mediterranean<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Then there\u2019s inflation and the cost of goods and services to contend with. The <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/economy\/inflationandpriceindices\/articles\/trackingthelowestcostgroceryitemsukexperimentalanalysis\/april2021toseptember2022\">Office of National Statistics<\/a> (ONS) suggests that web-scraped supermarket data for 30 everyday grocery items indicates that the lowest-priced items have gone up by 17% in the 12 months to September 2022.<\/p>\n<p>While London has long been hailed as a mecca for talent, thanks to the sheer scale of opportunities on offer plus its unrivalled access to culture and nightlife, other factors beyond the price of milk, bread, and rent are now clamouring for attention. Brexit, in particular, has reduced the size of the opportunity here with about 44% of UK-based financial services firms moving or planning to move some of their operations or staff to the EU, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ey.com\/en_uk\/news\/2021\/12\/ey-financial-services-brexit-tracker-brexit-activity-muted-over-2021-with-total-relocations-revised-down-and-few-major-operational-announcements\">according to EY<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rising layoffs among tech companies, political uncertainty \u2014 the UK is on its fifth prime minister in just six years \u2014 and a looming recession are not helping either. The ONS reported that Britain\u2019s economy shrank in the three months to September, ushering in what is expected to be the beginning of a recession.<\/p>\n<p>But despite all that, there are still plenty of opportunities. The key for workers is to focus on areas of stable growth, and careers within those sectors. Here are three sectors with high growth potential for 2023.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cybersecurity\"><\/span>Cybersecurity<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Following on from the UK\u2019s initial <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/national-cyber-security-strategy-2016-to-2021\">National Cyber Security Strategy 2016 to 2021<\/a>, the government launched the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/national-cyber-strategy-2022\">National Cyber Strategy 2022<\/a>, which sets out a five-pillar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach to protecting and promoting the U.K.\u2019s interests in cyberspace. The plan aims to shape its cyber sector so that it can stay ahead of adversaries, strengthen its abilities, and influence and shape tomorrow\u2019s technologies so they are safe, secure, and open.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, the U.K. is developing domain excellence in cybersecurity with companies such as BAE Systems, Clearswift, Sophos, and PwC leading the field. As we move towards an increasing level of digitization, digital security becomes increasingly important to secure our data in the first instance, and also protect it from attack.<\/p>\n<p>Cybersecurity jobs are particularly prevalent in the financial and fintech sectors, but are becoming more and more common across the workforce to secure sensitive data in healthcare and education.<\/p>\n<p>This essential sector doesn\u2019t look like it is going anywhere. You\u2019ll have end-to-end responsibilities for engineering and operations of network security services and will ensure a service-oriented organization that meets the business needs of a digital bank.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cloud\"><\/span>Cloud<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2022-04-19-gartner-forecasts-worldwide-public-cloud-end-user-spending-to-reach-nearly-500-billion-in-2022\">Gartner<\/a> reports that worldwide end-user spending on public cloud services is forecast to grow 20.4% this year, with spending expected to reach nearly \u00a3489 billion by 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The big boom in cloud adoption was driven by the pandemic: In April 2020, Microsoft\u2019s CEO Satya Nadella said, \u201cWe\u2019ve seen two years\u2019 worth of digital transformation in two months.\u201d That rapid pace has only continued as businesses first introduced remote working and now hybrid and flexible options.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, this is a great area for career growth. A recent report from <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aboutamazon.co.uk\/news\/aws\/digital-transformation-could-grow-the-uk-economy-by-over-413-billion-by-2030\">Public First and AWS<\/a> found that digital <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> could grow the UK economy by over \u00a3413 billion by 2030, which is more than twice the annual output of the UK\u2019s manufacturing sector (\u00a3183 billion). The research also revealed that cloud computing will play an integral role in underpinning the technology stack that will enable the UK\u2019s digital future.<\/p>\n<p>Interesting jobs at companies large and small are available. Google has a Cloud Security Consultant role in its Google Cloud Professional Services division on offer in London, for example. You\u2019ll provide advice and guidance to customers adopting Google Cloud Platform services, and work with them to design and develop cloud security architectures and solutions.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Artificial_Intelligence_AI\"><\/span>Artificial Intelligence (AI)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A recent study from software analytics company, SAS, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.sas.com\/content\/hiddeninsights\/2022\/07\/13\/smart-cities-which-parts-of-the-uk-are-the-most-ai-ready\/\">assessed the AI-readiness<\/a> of London\u2019s boroughs, discovering that Camden, Westminster, and Hackney came in the top three places. The study looked at the number of AI-related jobs, R&amp;D spend, GDP, business growth, and the number of relevant academic courses available within each area. In 2021, the city was home to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20211215005874\/en\/The-UK-Leads-Europe-and-Ranks-Third-Globally-in-Artificial-Intelligence#:~:text=\" london=\"\">1,300 AI companies<\/a>, or 65% of the entire UK AI industry ecosystem, with companies including Brainpool.ai, iTransition and Signal AI.<\/p>\n<p>The government wants to make the UK a \u201cglobal AI superpower\u201d and aims to do that with its 10-year <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/national-ai-strategy\">National AI Strategy<\/a>, which will place a wider focus on AI and data <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> skills, recognizing how these can be used to increase resilience, productivity, growth, and innovation across both the private and public sectors.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for an AI or machine learning role in London right now, you\u2019re in luck as any number of companies are hiring.
