And it\u2019s more than just talk \u2014 the weekend saw the world\u2019s largest floating (offshore) wind farm, Hywind Tampen, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.equinor.com\/news\/20221114-first-power-from-hywind-tampen\">begin energy production<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Developed by Equinor and located about 140 kilometres off the coast of Norway, the floating wind farm is the first in the world to power offshore oil and gas platforms.<\/p>\n<p>The wind farm is estimated to meet about 35% of the annual electricity power demand of five of the Gullfaks and Snorre partners\u2019 rigs. Of course, this percentage will increase when wind speed is higher. It will also cut CO2 emissions from the fields by about 200,000 tonnes per year.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inarticle-wrapper channel-cta\">\n<div class=\"ica-text\">\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Join_TNW_in_Valencia\"><\/span>Join TNW in Valencia!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The heart of tech is coming to the heart of the Mediterranean<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Furthermore, the site acts as a test bed for further development of floating wind, exploring new and larger turbines, installation methods, simplified moorings, concrete substructures, and integration between gas and wind power generation systems.<\/p>\n<p>Seven of the 11 wind farm\u2019s turbines are slated to come online in 2022, with the installation of another four taking place in 2023. This all seems like a good thing, but\u2026<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%A6Norway_wont_be_giving_up_that_sweet_gas_money\"><\/span>\u2026Norway won\u2019t be giving up that sweet gas money<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Norway is Western Europe\u2019s largest oil and gas producer \u2014 and has no intention of dismantling its oil industry. Effectively, it wants to use its floating wind farm to continue mining fossil fuels for as long as possible.<\/p>\n<p>On one hand, Norway\u2019s project represents a commitment to sustainability by developing a new industrial use case for offshore wind that other traditional industries can embrace. You could also argue that the funding and lessons learned in this process can benefit stations like this in the future.<\/p>\n<p>But on the other, this is a backwards way of sucking every last dollar out of the planet, with scant regard for the health of the world and future generations.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s clear now that we have the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> to transition to more sustainable energy, the problem is that those in power don\u2019t want to make it h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
