Now the feature is finally going live.<\/p>\n<p>When the iPhone 14 started shipping in September, it included the required antenna hardware for \u201cEmergency SOS\u201d \u2014 where the phone can (slowly) send a message or location information from areas where cell coverage isn\u2019t available. However, the feature wasn\u2019t available at launch, and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le said a few days ago that it would be available in November.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-848612\" data-pagespeed-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Image-1.jpeg?trim=1,1&amp;bg-color=000&amp;pad=1,1\" alt=\"images of iPhone 14 Emergency SOS\" width=\"1200\" height=\"754\" src=\"\/pagespeed_static\/1.JiBnMqyl6S.gif\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"imagecredit\">Apple<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sure enough, it\u2019s now rolling out, as part of the iOS 16.1 update. Apple said in a press release, \u201cEmergency SOS via satellite is available in the US and Canada starting today, November 15, and will come to France, Germany, Ireland, and the UK in December.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emergency SOS relies on a satellite network owned and operated by Globalstar, which has set aside 85% of its network capacity <em>just<\/em> for Apple. Globalstar and Apple have also set up communication centers to relay SOS messages to local emergency dispatchers. Apple is hoping the feature will be helpful for rural areas without cell coverage, as well as natural disaster zones that may have reduced network connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>Every iPhone 14 has two years of satellite connectivity included \u2014 Apple has not said how much the service will cost after that.
