Alex Mooney (R) announced Tuesday that he will run for Sen. Joe Manchin\u2019s (D-W.Va.) seat in 2024, declaring himself \u201call in\u201d and bashing Manchin as a \u201cliberal Democrat.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mooney, who was just re-elected to a 5<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0House term, is the first serious challenger to jump into what could turn into a competitive Republican primary in a state that former President Trump won with 68.6 percent of the vote in 2020. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m announcing right now that I am officially running for the United States\u00a0Senate for the seat that\u2019s open in two years that Joe Manchin currently is in and I\u2019m all in,\u201d Mooney told Hoppy Kercheval, the host of West Virginia Metro<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>\u2019 \u201cTalkline.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mooney noted that he won 66 percent of the vote in his election last week to West Virginia\u2019s second congressional district and declared \u201cI am not h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>y with the U.S. Senate results,\u201d referring to the failure of Republicans to retake the Senate majority. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRepublicans need to take the West Virginia seat in two years for the sake of this country,\u201d he said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He called Manchin \u201cthe chief enabler of Joe Biden,\u201d referring to the senator\u2019s vote in August for a sweeping bill to set a corporate minimum tax, spend $370 billion to fight climate change and lower prescription drug costs. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he\u2019s a liberal Democrat and West Virginia doesn\u2019t deserve that anymore and it has to be changed,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Manchin, who turned 75 in August, hasn\u2019t said whether we\u2019ll run for a fourth Senate term in two years. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Mooney may face a primary race against West Virginia Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Patrick Morrisey (R), who told The Hill last week that he\u2019s \u201clooking very closely at the Senate race.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Morrisey would bring a big campaign war chest to any primary battle. He and his allies say they have a capacity to raise at least $12 million for a statewide primary. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That may be why Mooney wants to be first out of the gate in announcing his plans to challenge Manchin. \u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The West Virginia congressman, however, pointed out that Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) announced her intention to run for Senate in November of 2012 for the 2014 election. <\/p>\n<p>Mooney also said he will support Trump\u2019s bid for the White House if he announces his plans to run for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m very grateful to President Trump for endorsing me in my primary,\u201d he said. \u201cI do think West Virginia voters support him. He\u2019s a fighter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m supportive of Trump, obviously, he supported me and I\u2019ll support him,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019d like to go meet with him and get his support again.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kercheval asked Mooney about allegations that he violated House ethics rules by taking a vacation with his family paid for by HSP Direct LLCC, a company that has received money from his campaign. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mooney dismissed the allegation as a \u201cdistraction.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the left is using attacks, raiding Mar-a-Lago and things like as a political tool now,\u201d he said. \u201cI run on the issues.\u201d \u00a0\n<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
