He always enjoys taking your questions. So, you know, he will \u2014  I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll take your questions as well. But again, he\u2019s going to address the American people and I think that matters. He\u2019s going to be clear about what\u2019s on his mind, and I\u2019m just not gonna get ahead of it from here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It would be unusual for Biden to forgo a press conference im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely after the midterms. <\/p>\n<p>Keith, of NPR, pointed out to Jean-Pierre last week that former Presidents Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama and Donald Trump all held a press conference after their first midterm. George HW Bush did not as the Gulf War overshadowed domestic politics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA formal press conference allows for a more in-depth exploration of the president\u2019s views,\u201d Keith told The Post in an email.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt better helps the American people understand where the president is coming from than a statement alone or even answering a few questions,\u201d she said. \u201cPresident Biden\u2019s recent predecessors have answered questions on the day after voting for anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half, giving the public insight into how they interpreted the election results and importantly how they planned to govern in the months ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ari Fleischer, George W. Bush\u2019s first press secretary from 2001 to 2003, said that holding a press conference is particularly necessary for Biden amid questions about his mental acuity and his political future as he prepares to celebrate his 80th birthday on Nov. 20.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s particularly important for Joe Biden, given the questions that will arise about whether he\u2019ll run for re-election,\u201d Fleischer said. \u201cThis is such a tradition. Presidents \u2014 win or lose \u2014 do it. If he doesn\u2019t, it will be a glaring deviation from the norm and people will wonder if he\u2019s able to hold one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fleischer added that if Biden does host a press conference, he would watch to see how the president explains the election results.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf his party loses the way it\u2019s projected, what\u2019s his explanation? Is it \u2018Mega MAGA\u2019s\u2019 fault? Is it a recognition that the Democrats are running too far to the left? Does it signal a change in how he governs?\u201d Fleischer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the era of divided government, it really is up to the president to decide if anything gets done, even more so than the Congress. Presidents can decide \u2018pass whatever you want and I\u2019ll veto it \u2014 we\u2019ll fight,\u2019 or presidents can do what Bill Clinton did when he lost the House and Senate in 1994 and work from the center.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Data compiled by political scientist Martha Kumar, director of the White House Transition Project, indicate that Biden is lagging behind his recent predecessors in press conferences.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has given 17 press conferences since taking office \u2014 most of them during overseas <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>s, though some were with visiting foreign leaders at the White House where it\u2019s traditional for the US president to call on just two American reporters.<\/p>\n<p>So far, Biden has averaged 0.8 press conferences per month, according to Kumar\u2019s data \u2014 compared to Trump\u2019s 2.6 per month and Obama\u2019s 1.7 per month over the course of their presidencies. George W. Bush averaged 2.2 press conferences per month, Bill Clinton averaged two per month and George H.W. Kumar noted that Reagan\u2019s tally included few foreign events and more evening East Room forums with major news networks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technology<\/a> has been important, particularly when you contrast the press conferences that Reagan did, because Reagan did nighttime East Room press conferences that were carried by all of the TV networks,\u201d Kumar said, noting that American viewing habits at the time meant the events \u201cunited people\u201d in focus.<\/p>\n<p>Presidents who served when radio was more widespread than TV actually gave more press conferences. Franklin D. Roosevelt gave more than 1,000 press conferences over his 12 years as president and averaged 7 per month, while Calvin Coolidge\u2019s more than 500 was good for an average of 7.8 per month over his two terms in office.<\/p>\n<p>Biden lags in interviews as well, giving just 42 as of Sept. 30 \u2014 less than 1\/3 as many as Trump\u2019s 143 at the same point in his presidency and less than 1\/5 as many as Obama\u2019s 231. However, Biden tops both in terms of short question and answer sessions \u2014 with\u00a0326 to Trump\u2019s 255 and Obama\u2019s 68 at this point in their presidencies, though Biden\u2019s exchanges can be very brief.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Karem, a veteran White House reporter who writes for Salon and other outlets, said Biden should hold a news conference \u201cno matter what the outcome\u201d of the election and that \u201cit should be an open press conference where every member of the press who holds a White House Press pass can attend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Karem, who has helped rally reporters against the Biden press office\u2019s mysterious prescreening process for large indoor presidential events, said that the give-and-take of a press conference is important for the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no reason on God\u2019s green earth why the current president of the United States cannot hold a press conference in the White House before an open press and answer questions about the direction this country is going in because of his leadership and as a result of the midterm elections,\u201d Karem said. \u201cThe electorate deserves answers. And we have many questions.
