Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was quick to opine on what the New York Democratic Party should do in the wake of the midterm losses in New York. In response, her fellow Democrat Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney didn\u2019t mince words: \u201cI didn\u2019t see her one minute of these midterms helping our House majority. So, I\u2019m not sure what kind of advice she has, but I\u2019m sure she\u2019ll be generous with it,\u201d he told The New York Times. Ouch.<\/p>\n<p>AOC was MIA. Again. It\u2019s no surprise. She\u2019s usually MIA and I said so two years ago when I ran against her in the Democratic Primary in the spring of 2020.<\/p>\n<p>It was the height of COVID. Her district was the epicenter of the epicenter. Where was she? In her luxury apartment in DC, doing something new at the time, \u201cZooms,\u201d in which she pretended to be in the Bronx.<\/p>\n<p>Not until this <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>paper called her out did she schlep home to the Bronx in the middle of the night, hoping no one would notice \u2026 really?<\/p>\n<p>Have you seen her constituent services office in the Bronx? No? It\u2019s hard to find. And when you do, you\u2019ll see she hasn\u2019t spent a dime on it. But no matter \u2014 no one expects her to help with much because she\u2019s never there.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, even her fellow progressive state Sen. Jessica Ramos <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jessicaramos\/status\/1551324889637949442\">called AOC out on Twitter for being MIA<\/a>, saying, \u201cMaybe if you spent more time in your office with your team, you\u2019d know what goes on. Didn\u2019t pay a dollar of dues. Didn\u2019t do anything for our frontline candidates except give them money when they didn\u2019t want it from her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Why wouldn\u2019t some candidates want money from AOC? Because her \u201cDefund the Police\u201d mantra is poison to moderate Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>National political pundits wonder why New York Democrats fared much worse than Democrats in other parts of the country. It\u2019s because \u201cDefund the Police\u201d started here, and it started with her. And with crime on the rise, suburban voters blame her, and by extension the rest of us in the Democratic Party. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why Gov. Kathy Hochul didn\u2019t campaign with AOC until the very last day. That\u2019s why attack ads against candidates such as Rep. In an MSNBC interview, Ryan said this was a reason he was the one and only New York Democrat in a tight race to eke out a win.<\/p>\n<p>When I was running against her in the Democratic primary in spring 2020, AOC couldn\u2019t say \u201cDefund the Police\u201d enough. I\u2019m a moderate Democrat, and I couldn\u2019t stand the phrase.<\/p>\n<p>In our NY1 debate before the primary, anchor Errol Louis asked us in a lightning round, \u201cDefund the Police. Yes or no?\u201d \u201cYes,\u201d she said with glee. \u201cNo,\u201d I answered. When the debate ended, my team told me that I had probably lost the primary as a result. \u201cWell,\u201d I told them, \u201cI need to sleep at night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I did lose, but I don\u2019t lose sleep.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s doubtful AOC will get the message that Maloney was trumpeting loud and clear: \u201cThere are other voices who should be heard, especially when suburban voters have clearly rejected the ideas that she\u2019s most associated with, from defunding the police on down.\u201d She\u2019s already \u201cclapped back\u201d at him. On <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>. AOC is still MIA.<\/p>\n<p><em>Michelle Caruso-Cabrera ran for Congress in the Democratic primary against AOC in June of 2020.
