Her lawyer Bryan Freedman also did not return calls or emails for comment.<\/p>\n<p>MSNBC declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p>Insiders say Cross was ousted partly over her habit of making \u201cvulgar\u201d comments and \u201cname calling\u201d on air, but The Post has learned that she also had been under fire for racking up as much as $100,000 in expenses for five-star hotel stays. <\/p>\n<p>During her two-year tenure at MSNBC, the host took <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>s to Los Angeles and the Super Bowl, positioning them as work trips, sources said. Management wasn\u2019t receptive partly because her show was in last place \u2014 despite her public insistence that her numbers were strong, according to sources close to the situation.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on her exit, Cross <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CkkEETDIpXJ\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link\">claimed <\/a>that her show garnered \u201cmore than 4.6 million monthly viewers\u201d and that it was MSNBC\u2019s \u201chighest-rated weekend show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ustvdb.com\/networks\/msnbc\/shows\/cross-connection-tiffany-cross\/\">Nielsen<\/a>, \u201cThe Cross Connection\u201d never came close to that number, drawing between 704,000 and 465,000 a week since June. For the year, Cross\u2019 show averaged 548,000 viewers. <\/p>\n<p>Last month, the show reeled in just 605,000 viewers on average, trailing \u201cCNN Newsroom\u201d with 696,000 viewers and Fox News\u2019 \u201cCavuto Live,\u201d which tallied nearly 1.4 million viewers. A former Washington bureau chief for BET, Cross worked as a political guest analyst for MSNBC before eventually grabbing an anchor chair in 2020. <\/p>\n<p>Sources said doubts had lately grown whether Cross\u2019 contract would be renewed. Nevertheless, her abrupt dismissal days before the midterm elections surprised some insiders, who expected she would at least finish out the contract, which had been set to expire Dec. 31.<\/p>\n<p>Fans of Cross\u2019 outspoken, tell-it-like-it-is delivery blasted MSNBC on social media for canceling \u201cThe Cross Connection,\u201d which aired on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. In a statement posted to her Instagram, Cross herself portrayed her ouster as \u201cbacklash\u201d for her unapologetic takes on gender, race and politics.<\/p>\n<p>But inside MSNBC, execs grew frustrated with Cross\u2019 habit of attacking news hosts at other cable networks. Their problem was never Cross\u2019 message, but her delivery, the source added.<\/p>\n<p>Her demise was fast-tracked after her <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/msnbcs-cross-refers-clarence-thomas-justice-pubic-hair-my-coke-can\">Oct. 15 comments on Supreme Court Judge Clarence Thomas<\/a>, whom she called \u201cJustice Pubic Hair on My Coke Can.\u201d A source said that on-air segment earned the host her last warning, and it is possible she then learned of her fate.<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 3, Cross appeared on <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cc.com\/episodes\/edwjaz\/hell-of-a-week-with-charlamagne-tha-god-november-3-2022-a-midterm-night-s-dream-season-1-ep-13\">Comedy Central\u2019s \u201cHell of a Week with Charlamagne,\u201d<\/a> making comments that rankled MSNBC execs, an insider told The Post.\u00a0The show\u2019s host, Charlemagne Tha God, asked his roundtable of guests which state the Democrats could afford to lose in the midterm elections.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/derrick-johnson-naacp.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"NAACP CEO Derrick Johnson\" class=\"wp-image-24679304\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/derrick-johnson-naacp.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/derrick-johnson-naacp.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/derrick-johnson-naacp.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson was one of the 40 black leaders supporting Cross. Johnson was called by Cross before MSNBC informed her she was let go, a source said. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cFlorida literally looks like the d\u2013k of the country, so let\u2019s get rid of Florida,\u201d Cross responded. \u201cLet\u2019s castrate Florida.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The next day, Cross was told she was out, sources close to the situation said.<\/p>\n<p>Cross\u2019 dismissal ignited a firestorm from over 40 black leaders across politics and media \u2014 including NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson  who, according to sources, was among the calls that Cross made, along with her friend, political commentator Angela Rye. <\/p>\n<p>Johnson did not respond for requests for comment. Rye did not comment.<\/p>\n<p>In the letter, also signed by Color of Change president Rashad Robinson and ex-ESPN personality Jemele Hill, Cross\u2019 supporters criticized MSNBC for deciding not to renew her contract just a few weeks after Fox News\u2019 Carlson <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/tucker-carlson-open-race-hate-forms-much-msnbcs-substance\">blasted her comments on race<\/a>\u00a0and accused her of \u201cgenocidal talk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMSNBC isn\u2019t allowed not to renew contracts?\u201d a source close to MSNBC shot back, adding that the idea that Cross\u2019 ouster was related to Carlson was \u201cutterly ridiculous.
