I went to the novel first and then I went to Christopher Hampton\u2019s movie, because I do think that\u2019s the seminal adaptation,\u201d said Warner. \u201cAnd I wanted to stay true to that period. People read about what they thought was the true behavior of the Ancien Regime,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was very interested in the world of sex workers of Paris in the eighteenth century. I was interested in the way the early formation of what will go on to become the police, and how there was so much that was forbidden and censored\u2026All of this bleeds out into a greatly divided society. Paris at that time was so fascinating. This is a story which will always be this oscillating relationship with Camille and Valmont. We are following their ride, and we are in a world we know historically is moving towards huge change. So, there\u2019s a natural propulsion and structure.\u00a0In Season 2, everything gets bigger \u2013 the stakes, the world.
