Rand Paul (R-Ky.) asked Wray during a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing about the alleged partnership \u2014 named in the House report, based in part on whistleblower claims of pro-Democratic bias within the FBI, as \u201cOperation Bronze Griffin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs Facebook or any other social media company supplying private messages or data on American users that is not compelled by the government or the FBI?\u201d Paul asked Wray.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot compelled \u2014 in other words, not in response to the legal process?\u201d Wray replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo warrant, no subpoena \u2014 they\u2019re just supplying you information on their users?\u201d Paul clarified.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t believe so. Because this is the law. If you\u2019re doing it, then we need to go to court to prevent you from receiving this information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I can tell you that I\u2019m quite confident we\u2019re following the law,\u201d Wray said. \u201cBut I will also follow up with you to make sure that we get more information, more detailed information.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>There\u2019s some legal fuzziness when it comes to companies handing over user information due to various court rulings over the past decade on law enforcement collection of records voluntarily shared with companies.<\/p>\n<p>Federal officials have been coy before about domestic surveillance operations. <\/p>\n<p>Then-Director of National Intelligence James Cl<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er denied in March 2013 that the National Security Agency was collecting \u201cany type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans\u201d when asked by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, sir,\u201d Clapper said. \u201cNot wittingly.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/fbi-meta.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"The White House has denied using Facebook's post flagging portal. \" class=\"wp-image-24698782\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/fbi-meta.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/fbi-meta.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/fbi-meta.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Former press secretary Psaki said last year that the White House was\u00a0\u201cflagging\u201d\u00a0alleged misinformation to Facebook.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Months later, whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed that the NSA was mass-collecting domestic call records while also \u201cpartnering\u201d with major tech companies to acquire user data through a program called PRISM.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI would not confirm or deny the existence of Operation Bronze Griffin, but denied being politically biased in a statement earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPut quite simply: we follow the facts without regard for politics,\u201d\u00a0an FBI spokesperson told The Post.\u00a0\u201cWhile\u00a0outside opinions and criticism often come with the job, we will continue to follow the facts wherever they lead, do things by the book, and speak through our work.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Facebook spokesman Andy Stone, a\u00a0former Democratic staffer who <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/andymstone\/status\/1316395902479872000\">announced<\/a> plans in 2020 to reduce distribution of The Post\u2019s scoops on documents from Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop, also declined to confirm or deny the existence of Operation Bronze Griffin following the House report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn whether [Operation Bronze Griffin] exists, I\u2019d refer you to the FBI,\u201d Stone said, adding:\u00a0\u201cAny suggestion we seek out peoples\u2019 private information on a partisan basis to provide it to the FBI is false and there is zero evidence to support it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Separately, The Intercept on Oct. 31\u00a0exposed an online gateway\u00a0through which authorities with a government or law enforcement email address reportedly can request the removal of \u201cmisinformation\u201d from Facebook or Instagram.<\/p>\n<p>White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told The Post that West Wing staff don\u2019t use the Facebook portal, even though her predecessor Jen Psaki said last year that the White House was\u00a0\u201cflagging\u201d\u00a0alleged misinformation to the company.<\/p>\n<p>The Intercept reported that content flagged by the Department of Homeland Security through the portal included \u201cparody accounts or accounts with virtually no followers or influence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Civil libertarians, including the American Civil Liberties Union, which has been accused of being too quiet about recent online censorship, blasted the Facebook portal as a probable violation of Americans\u2019 free speech rights,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ACLU\/status\/1587198479608303622\">tweeting<\/a>, \u201cThe First Amendment bars the government from deciding for us what is true or false, online or anywhere.\u201d\n                        <\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
