This ain\u2019t Thunder Road,\u201d orders one sign, referring to the song by beloved Garden State star Bruce Springsteen. Another:  \u201cHold onto your butts \u2014 help prevent forest fires.\u201d And: \u201cWe\u2019ll be blunt. Don\u2019t drive high.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DOT boss Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti said the messages \u201ccaught on in a big way.\u201d They no doubt brightened the day for millions of motorists, while also getting the point across.<\/p>\n<p>Yet FHA officials banned them nonetheless, The <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/transportation\/nj-department-of-transportation-road-signs-20221116.html&amp;outputType=app-web-view\">Philadelphia Inquirer reported<\/a> \u2014 without even an explanation. The program ended Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Utterly ridiculous. The jokes made substantial points. And if the feds have any evidence they don\u2019t work, they\u2019ve yet to make it public.<\/p>\n<p>Putting a bit of attitude, and humor, into traffic signs isn\u2019t new: New York introduced its \u201cDon\u2019t even THINK of parking here\u201d signs back in 1982, under Mayor Ed Koch. They lasted a long while \u2014 and would be cheered if they returned.<\/p>\n<p>Someone in Congress should have a field day calling out the mindless, humorless FHA bureaucrats and their petty war on Jersey creativity.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
