Not when answering questions from reporters, but also not in private settings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Romanov, a native of Moscow, learned a bit of English in school, but didn\u2019t know much of the language when he came to North America with the Canadiens in 2020. Now with the Islanders, and in his third NHL season, he has a solid grasp of English, communicating easily with reporters, but he\u2019s still learning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t, like, hang out with the boys and talk about everything,\u201d Romanov told The Post. \u201cThat\u2019s really hard. That\u2019s really hard. All the hockey stuff, simple questions, that\u2019s easy for me already. But it\u2019s not enough for speaking with somebody like a close friend.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Romanov\u2019s situation is far from unique in the NHL or even on the Islanders. Goaltenders Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov both are native Russian speakers, and Anthony Beauvillier grew up speaking French in Quebec. You gotta pick and choose sometimes you don\u2019t really know what\u2019s better.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>By that, Beauvillier didn\u2019t mean anything crass \u2014 just some expressions that NHL players use that others don\u2019t.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe like, \u2018chirp,\u2019 \u201d Beauvillier said, referring to the word used in hockey for trash talk. \u201cPeople don\u2019t necessarily use that other than the hockey world.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Noah Dobson, who grew up in English-speaking Prince Edward Island, said that in Bathurst, New Brunswick, where his first Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team was located, there was a mix of English and French, and his billet family was bilingual. That helped him get by, even with French being the predominant language.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Upon being traded to Rouyn-Noranda, though, the same rules didn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ly. His billet mom was bilingual, but his billet dad spoke only French, and the Western Quebec community was almost exclusively French-speaking.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI picked it up a little bit,\u201d Dobson told The Post. \u201cI can understand it pretty good. That\u2019s how it\u2019s gonna be. Better and better. \u2026 Now it\u2019s better. Every day, it\u2019s better, better, better.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you get thrown into it, you learn a lot quicker,\u201d Beauvillier said. \u201cKind of have to deal with stuff day-to-day in that language. So that\u2019s really when you learn the best.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Romanov might have put it best.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a real life lesson,\u201d he said. \u201cYou just jump into the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> [environment] and try to survive.\u201d\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
