This, just a day after the Times\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/16\/opinion\/house-democrats-new-york.html\">ran a perfectly clear column<\/a>\u00a0by veteran Dem consultant Howard Wolfson flagging two other explanations, namely the gerrymander debacle and the Legislature\u2019s refusal to heed clear public concerns about crime.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>It insisted, \u201cThe heightened fear over crime in New York City is a bit of a chicken-and-egg conundrum,\u201d treating as equal explanations 1) Adams is talking about crime, or 2) people see that it\u2019s up. Hel-<em>lo<\/em>: It\u00a0<em>is<\/em>\u00a0up, and New Yorkers ain\u2019t blind.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Later on, it admits, \u201cCrime has risen in New York City since the pandemic began,\u201d then in the same sentence falls back on a prime crime-deniers\u2019 excuse: \u201cbut the city is much safer than it was in the 1990s.\u201d That\u2019s like saying, well, things are better than they were in the Dark Ages. People <em>remember <\/em>what the city was like in 2017, when murders hit a record low and the streets were safer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Its disingenuous summary of one key criminal-justice reform: \u201cIn 2019, state lawmakers in New York rewrote bail law so that fewer people awaiting trial landed behind bars because they could not afford to post bail.\u201d No: They ordered judges to\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0order bail or jail in all but a few circumstances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>It fails to mention that Adams has faulted those reforms from the start of his winning campaign for mayor. Was he supposed to shut up just because Hochul and other elected Democrats wouldn\u2019t listen, but Republicans chimed in? In discussing why the progressives blame him, shouldn\u2019t it have at least noted that they were the driving force in passing those laws?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The dismissal of dead and wounded young black men is amazing. For a news outlet quick to cry \u201cracist\u201d on everything else, the assumption that the rise in gang shootings and deaths don\u2019t matter is shocking.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>As with all the Times\u2019 from-10,000-feet reporting on crime, the analysis ignores reality beyond the statistics. For every person accosted on the subway, hundreds have to navigate around the seriously-mentally-ill guy reeling down the platform. Gang activity in your neighborhood means you have to think twice about even going out of the house.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Despite the story\u2019s show of giving Adams\u2019 side, its studied cluelessness \u2014 about everything from the facts on the ground (do Times editors ride the subway anymore?) to the actual laws Adams complains about \u2014 wound up endorsing the progressives\u2019 complaint under guise of straight news reporting.<\/p>\n<p>That is: The Times is Exhibit A of the denial that hurt Democrats so badly on Election Day.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
