Bitcoin sees record Stock-to-Flow miss \u2014 BTC price model creator brushes off FTX &#8216;blip&#8217; &#8220;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-887bb764>Bitcoin (BTC) is now further than ever from its target price according to the Stock-to-Flow (S2F) model.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lookintobitcoin.com\/charts\/stock-to-flow-model\/\">latest data<\/a> shows that BTC\/USD has deviated from planned price growth to an extent never seen before.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Stock-to-Flow_sets_grim_new_record\"><\/span>Stock-to-Flow sets grim new record<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>With BTC price suppression ongoing in light of the FTX scandal, an already bearish trend has only strengthened.<\/p>\n<p>This has implications for many core aspects of the Bitcoin network, notably miners, but some of its best-known metrics are also feeling the heat.<\/p>\n<p>Among them is S2F, which is seeing its price forecasts come under increasing strain \u2014 and criticism.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoying great popularity until Bitcoin\u2019s last all-time high in November 2021, the model uses block subsidy halving events as the central element in plotting exponential price growth through the years.<\/p>\n<p>S2F allows for significant price deviations and is not \u201cup only\u201d \u2014 but even accounting for these, current targets are far higher than spot price.<\/p>\n<p>According to dedicated monitoring resource <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/s2fmultiple\/status\/1593842834666360832\">S2F Multiple<\/a>, Bitcoin should trade at just over $72,000 on Nov. 19, giving a multiple of -1.47.<\/p>\n<p>On Nov. 10, the multiple reached -1.5 \u2014 a record negative reading in S2F\u2019s lifetime \u2014 as the FTX impact hit the market.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-11\/872352be-7141-4bc7-a356-e7d663ec4898.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Bitcoin Stock-to-Flow Multiple chart. Source: Philip Swift\/ Twitter<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nonetheless, PlanB, the pseudonymous analyst responsible for the creation \u2014 and now, defense \u2014 of S2F, remains cool on its utility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels like the world ended, but FTX will probably be just a small blip on the long term radar,\u201d he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/100trillionUSD\/status\/1593612896268959746\/photo\/1\">argued<\/a> in his own tweet.<\/p>\n<p>PlanB has fielded increasingly strong accusations over the model in 2022, these including claims that its basis is fraudulent.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the increasing deviation between target and spot price, he maintained that even a comparatively wide range for price to act within and still keep the model valid was still more useful than no insight at all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"post-content__disclaimer\">The views and opinions expressed here are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Cointelegraph.com.
