The bar opened in 1829.<\/p>\n<p>Bigan, a realtor, became a 25% shareholder in Neir\u2019s in 2009 with his wife, Melanie, who ran Neir\u2019s for a few years before stepping away in 2012 when she was diagnosed with cancer. She died in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Gordon took over a 75% stake in Neir\u2019s around that time, buying out two other shareholders and running the place.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline-slideshow\" keeping Neir\u2019s going through tough times, including the COVID-19 pandemic, Gordon was looking to get out of the business in 2019, according to Bigan\u2019s Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Gordon allegedly complained he was \u201calways in the red\u201d and \u201ccould never make enough money,\u201d and asked Bigan to help him find someone to take over Neir\u2019s, according to legal papers. <\/p>\n<p>The following year, with no warning, Gordon announced Neir\u2019s would close \u2014 prompting a public outcry and an $80,000 grant from the city to save it, Bigan claims. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>The bar was ultimately saved, but Gordon then allegedly ignored Bigan\u2019s calls and texts and shut him out of the bar\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> accounts, Bigan charges in court papers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe just wants to know what\u2019s going on, and also, to get some compensation, because he never gave up his status as a shareholder,\u201d said Bigan\u2019s lawyer, Susan Warnock. \u201cHe did offer to help over the years and it was kind of rebuffed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gordon should be removed from the bar\u2019s day-to-day operations and it should be run by a neutral third party, said Bigan, who said he\u2019s not been paid anything since Gordon took over and wants a judge to order an accounting of the business. <\/p>\n<p>Gordon denied the allegations. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mission since 2009 has been and continues to be to keep historic Neir\u2019s Tavern open and sustainable before, during, and after the pandemic,\u201d he said in a statement, calling the bar \u201ca labor of love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNeir\u2019s is an intrinsic part of the Woodhaven community and we are grateful to all those who have supported us in Queens and beyond \u2026 I am extremely saddened that someone would make a blatant attempt for their own profit, that could jeopardize the future of Neir\u2019s Tavern.
