Kelly<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and his legal team are<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0seeking to overturn the disgraced R&amp;B singer\u2019s convictions for various sex crimes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/criminal-justice\/ct-r-kelly-chicago-federal-conviction-motions-acquittal-new-trial-20221116-ql3bwysoa5g45gfoxjoeus3egq-story.html\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chicago Tribune<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the \u201cI Believe I Can Fly\u201d singer\u2019s lawyers have<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">filed two motions in Chicago\u2019s federal court seeking a new trial or reversal of his prior convictions of sex abuse and child pornography.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit200\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jennifer Bonjean, Kelly\u2019s lead attorney filed the motions with U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber presiding over the hearing on Tuesday (November 15). The arguments will be heard at an <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eal hearing to the 7th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Per the report, Bonjean made a request to Leinenweber for a judgment of acquittal due to \u201cseveral technical factors, including that prosecutors did not prove that the alleged sex tape of Kelly abusing \u201cJane\u201d at his home was made for the \u201cpurpose\u201d of producing child pornography.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit300\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, Bonjean argued that there was insufficient evidence that the sex tape had ever crossed state lines, which prosecutors were required to prove in court, and that the prosecution team failed to prove that Kelly had \u201ccoerced\u201d teenage girls to have sex with him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bonjean\u2019s second motion asked for a new trial accusing Dr. Darrel Turner, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/criminal-justice\/ct-r-kelly-opening-statements-chicago-federal-trial-20220817-spmktlkj2rf3thpfyhu4dqywb4-story.html\">who testified as an expert witness,<\/a> of making false statements at the trial. Turner testified <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">about how sexual predators \u201cgroom\u201d underage victims.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"mobile outerAdHatch\">\n<div class=\"ad-border\">\n<div class=\"innerAdHatch\">\n<div id=\"contentUnit400\" class=\"adUnits\" inserted=\"shortcode\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHad the jurors known that Dr. Turner actively misled them, the jurors would likely have rejected his testimony outright,\u201d Bonjean wrote.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prosecutors are expected to file responses to Bonjean\u2019s motions later this month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After being convicted on nine counts of various racketeering and sex trafficking charges <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">during his trial in September 2021<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Kelly was <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sentenced <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to 30 years in prison by U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly back in June.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cYou made me do things that broke my spirit,\u201d <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2022\/06\/29\/nyregion\/-r-kelly-sentencing-news\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one alleged victim said in court at the time.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cI literally wished I would die because of how low you made me feel.
