    DIS,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203410047\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+0.38%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       announced Sunday night that Chief Executive Bob Chapek was out, and will be replaced by his predecessor, Robert Iger.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cWe thank Bob Chapek for his service to Disney over his long career, including navigating the company through the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic,\u201d board chair Susan Arnold said in a statement. \u201cThe Board has concluded that as Disney embarks on an increasingly complex period of industry transformation, Bob Iger is uniquely situated to lead the Company through this pivotal period.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Iger served as Disney\u2019s CEO from 2005-\u201920, and served as executive chairman and chairman of the board through 2021. Over his 15-year tenure as CEO, Disney rebuilt itself as a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> powerhouse, with the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and its \u201cStar Wars\u201d properties, and 21st Century Fox.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Iger has the deep respect of Disney\u2019s senior leadership team, most of whom he worked closely with until his departure as executive chairman 11 months ago, and he is greatly admired by Disney employees worldwide \u2014 all of which will allow for a seamless transition of leadership,\u201d Arnold said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>Disney made clear that Iger\u2019s return will be temporary \u2014 two years, with a mandate from the board to set a new strategic direction and develop a successor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWow,\u201d Wedbush analyst <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DivesTech\/status\/1594531652042199041\" class=\"icon none\">Dan Ives said in a tweet<\/a> Sunday night. \u201cIger had golden touch at Disney,\u201d he said, adding that his return is a \u201cmajor strategic move with ramifications across the media and streaming industry looking ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Iger announced he was stepping down as CEO in February 2020, with Disney saying at the time he would continue to \u201cdirect the company\u2019s creative endeavors.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Disney stock suffered its worst day since 2001 following what one analyst termed a \u201cmassive earnings downgrade,\u201d after the company in its fourth-quarter earnings report forecast significantly softer-than-expected, single-digit growth in the coming fiscal year, far below analysts\u2019 consensus view of 25% growth.<\/p>\n<p>That was all despite Disney\u2019s best year for revenue growth in more than 25 years. Disney\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a> parks grew steadily in the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic, but its largest business segment, media and entertainment distribution, suffered a sharp drop in sales. And while the Disney+ streaming service is rapidly growing, it\u2019s still a money-loser. The service will add a cheaper, advertising-supported tier in December in a bid to increase revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/disney-details-plans-for-cost-cuts-layoffs-and-hiring-freeze-in-memo-11668206985?mod=article_inline\" class=\"icon none\">the Wall Street Journal reported<\/a> Disney\u2019s companywide plans to cut costs, including a near ban on business <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>, a hiring freeze and likely layoffs. \u201cWe are going to have to make tough and uncomfortable decisions,\u201d Chapek reportedly said in an internal memo.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>Earlier this year, Chapek widely criticized for Disney\u2019s response to Florida\u2019s new \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d law. After at first saying Disney would stay out of the political fight, he finally expressed his concerns to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and pledged millions to LGBTQ+ causes and paused the company\u2019s political donations in Florida. That drew harsh backlash from conservatives, while many Disney employees participated in walkouts to protest what they said was Chapek\u2019s slow and lackluster response. Chapek apologized to employees, saying <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thewaltdisneycompany.com\/statement-on-disneys-support-for-the-lgbtq-community\/\" class=\"icon none\">\u201cI let you down.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This past June, Disney extended Chapek\u2019s contract for another three years, with Arnold calling Chapek \u201cthe right leader at the right time,\u201d and saying he had the board\u2019s \u201cfull confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Disney shares have fallen about 10% since June, and are down 38% year to date, compared to the 5% decline this year by the Dow Jones Industrial Average<br \/>\n        DJIA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210598065\/realtime\" class=\"positive\">+0.59%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       of which it is a component.<\/p>\n<p>While Iger was long seen as a champion of creatives, Chapek chafed many at Disney with his decisions, including one to stream new <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> on Disney+ the same day they hit theaters \u2014 which drew a 2021 lawsuit from actress Scarlett Johansson, who claimed the decision \u201ccheated\u201d her out of millions of dollars in earnings. (The suit was later settled.)<\/p>\n<p>In March, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/03\/20\/disney-ceo-chapek-iger-falling-out.html\" class=\"icon none\">CNBC reported<\/a> that Iger and Chapek \u2014 his handpicked successor \u2014 had had a falling out and rarely spoke anymore, and that there was significant internal tension caused by Chapek making key decisions about Disney\u2019s future without Iger\u2019s input. \u201cIt was extremely awkward,\u201d one source told CNBC.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/karaswisher\/status\/1594539437324730368\" class=\"icon none\">a podcast with Kara Swisher<\/a>, Iger dismissed \u201cridiculous\u201d rumors that he might return to lead Disney, saying \u201cYou can\u2019t go home again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But in a statement Sunday night, Iger said he was \u201cthrilled\u201d to return.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am extremely optimistic for the future of this great company and thrilled to be asked by the Board to return as its CEO,\u201d Iger said. \u201cDisney and its incomparable brands and franchises hold a special place in the hearts of so many people around the globe \u2014 most especially in the hearts of our employees, whose dedication to this company and its mission is an inspiration.
