Disney brings back Bob Iger as CEO: Here&#8217;s the crypto connection &#8220;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.cointelegraph.com\/images\/840_aHR0cHM6Ly9zMy5jb2ludGVsZWdyYXBoLmNvbS91cGxvYWRzLzIwMjItMTEvOTJmMmZkNzgtMDVkZi00YWRkLThjZjUtNzEzNmU0NDVjN2YzLmpwZw==.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-887bb764>Metaverse-backer Bob Iger has announced a surprise return to his former role as CEO of Disney, taking over from now-former CEO Bob Chapek.<\/p>\n<p>While Iger is most well known for serving 15 years as the CEO of the global entertainment conglomerate, the Disney executive became <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RobertIger\/status\/1503346643663560707?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1503346643663560707%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fdecrypt.co%2F95085%2Fformer-walt-disney-ceo-bob-iger-backs-metaverse-startup\">known<\/a> in the crypto community after becoming a director, advisor and investor in Genies, a digital avatar platform running on D<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er Labs\u2019 Flow blockchain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrilled to be joining the Genies Board of Directors to help Akash Nigam and company empower humans to create the &#8216;mobile apps of Web3&#8217;: avatar ecosystems,\u201d Iger said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Iger was still at Disney as an executive and board chairman when the company filed for a Metaverse-related patent on Dec. 28.<\/p>\n<p>The patent was for a \u201cvirtual-world simulator in a real-world venue,&#8221; and according to the filing, would allow visitors to Disney theme parks to use mobile phones to generate and project personalized 3D effects onto nearby physical spaces, such as walls and other objects.<\/p>\n<p>However, Disney said at the time there were \u201cno current plans\u201d to use the \u201cvirtual-world simulator\u201d patent, and the company has yet to announce any products related to the patent.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>Silicon Valley tech CEOs are not big fans of metaverses<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to the Hollywood Reporter, Iger\u2019s return will reportedly only be temporary, though, with Iger only agreeing to serve as Disney\u2019s CEO for the next two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During his new term as CEO, Iger will reportedly work with the Board to set the strategic direction for the company and work to develop a successor.<\/p>\n<p>In his absence, Disney has continued to work towards projects involving the metaverse, NFTs and blockchain throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>In September, Disney started hiring for a principal counsel to work on transactions involving NFTs, the Metaverse, blockchain and decentralized finance (DeFi).<\/p>\n<p>Specifically seeking someone to provide \u201cfull product life cycle legal advice and support for global NFT products\u201d and ensure they comply with all current laws and regulations on United States soil and internationally.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"markets_outlook\"><\/template><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
