Iger returned to the Mouse House less than one year after he retired as Disney\u2019s executive chairman and roughly two years after he ceded the CEO gig to Chapek.<\/p>\n<p>Other top Disney executives were unaware of the leadership change until they received Iger\u2019s email announcing his return Sunday night. Some of the executives learned the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> while attending an Elton John concert at Dodger Stadium that was being livestreamed on the Disney+ streaming service, the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/walt-disney-names-bob-iger-ceo-replacing-bob-chapek-11669000050?mod=hp_lead_pos1\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> reported. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/bob-iger-return-disney-blindsided-chapek-feat-image.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Bob Chapek\" class=\"wp-image-24731528\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/bob-iger-return-disney-blindsided-chapek-feat-image.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/bob-iger-return-disney-blindsided-chapek-feat-image.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/bob-iger-return-disney-blindsided-chapek-feat-image.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Bob Chapek was under intense pressure as Disney struggled this year.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Meanwhile, Disney employees were reportedly so perplexed upon receiving Iger\u2019s email that some wondered if it was a legitimate message or had come from a hacked account.<\/p>\n<p>Chapek had been expected to attend the concert and the company had even planned for him to introduce John on stage, sources told the Journal. It\u2019s unclear if he actually attended the event.<\/p>\n<p>The Post has reached out to Disney for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Chapek\u2019s ouster came just a few months after Disney\u2019s board gave him a three-year contract extension \u2014 coupled with an annual bonus of at least $20 million. Chapek purportedly struggled to build a rapport with creative leaders within Disney, including executives in its film and TV segment and its theme parks division.<\/p>\n<p>Chapek faced intense pressure this year after Disney\u2019s botched response to Florida\u2019s Republican-backed \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d law rankled critics on both sides of the aisle.<\/p>\n<p>Chapek\u2019s initial silence on the matter prompted protests from its left-leaning employees as well as a public rebuke from Iger himself \u2014 who said he agreed with President Biden\u2019s criticism of the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Chapek eventually issued a statement condemning the law\u2019s passage \u2014 a move that infuriated Republican Florida Gov. Despite its subscriber gains, Disney\u2019s streaming segment lost a whopping $1.47 billion during the three-month period.<\/p>\n<p>Chapek gave little hint of any trouble during his appearance earlier this month at the Paley Center for <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a>\u2019s International Council Summit in New York.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2022\/11\/disney-bob-chapek-treaming-next-generation-storytelling-walt-disney-world-disneyland-1235167824\/\">During a Q&amp;A session<\/a>, Chapek touted the success of the Disney+ streaming service, which has topped 160 million global subscribers, even as he equated Disney\u2019s operations to that of a \u201cmanual car\u201d that require constant adjustments in the current environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking at making Disney+ all that it can be, but at the same time know that shorter term our investors expect us to have a return on that investment,\u201d Chapek said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>But tensions among Chapek, Iger and Disney\u2019s board had simmered for years prior to the latest C-suite shakeup. The 71-year-old Iger had steadily undermined Chapek \u2014 both publicly and privately \u2014 in the days prior to his comeback, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>In July, Insider reported that Iger considered his naming of Chapek as his successor one of his \u201cworst business decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The relationship between Iger and Chapek reportedly soured while the latter was serving as executive chairman of the board.
