Texas to probe FTX endorsements by Tom Brady, Stephen Curry and other celebs   &#8220;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.cointelegraph.com\/images\/840_aHR0cHM6Ly9zMy5jb2ludGVsZWdyYXBoLmNvbS91cGxvYWRzLzIwMjItMTEvOGJiNTQyOTEtOWU2MC00MmI3LWE5OTMtNDJjY2ZhM2Q0ZTgwLmpwZw==.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-5129e2ea>NFL quarterback Tom Brady and basketball point guard Stephen Curry are reportedly among the celebrities facing a probe from the Texas financial regulator over their promotion of the now-bankrupt crypto exchange, FTX.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Joe Rotunda, director of enforcement at the Texas State Securities Board reportedly <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bnnbloomberg.ca\/tom-brady-steph-curry-ftx-endorsements-probed-by-texas-regulator-1.1849539\">told<\/a> Bloomberg in a Nov. 22 report that the Texas State Securities Board is scrutinizing payments received by celebrities to endorse FTX US, what disclosures were made and how accessible they were for investors.<\/p>\n<p>Rotunda however noted that while the watchdog was taking a &#8220;close look at them,&#8221; the celebrities\u2019 endorsements of FTX were not an &#8220;im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>te priority,\u201d but would be part of the \u201cregulator&#8217;s larger probe into FTX&#8217;s collapse.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Both Brady and Curry have also been named in a Nov. 15 class-action lawsuit against FTX, along with former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit alleged that they \u201ccontrolled, promoted, assisted in, and actively participated\u201d in FTX Trading LTD and West Realm Shires Services Inc.<\/p>\n<p>Others named in the class action include model Gisele Bundchen, the Golden State Warriors basketball team, NBA player Udonis Haslem and co-creator of Seinfeld Larry David. <\/p>\n<p>Cointelegraph reached out to the Texas State Securities Board for comment but did not receive a reply before publication.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Related: <\/em><\/strong><strong><em>The SEC should be aiming at Do Kwon, but it\u2019s getting distracted by Kim Kardashian<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the past surveys have found that nearly half of retail investors will follow digital asset advice from the social media accounts of celebrities and influencers without question, and this has seen more than a few use their influence to shill crypto products and projects. <\/p>\n<p>In October, reality TV star Kim Kardashian was fined by the\u00a0United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for\u00a0\u201ctouting on social media\u201d about the EMAX without disclosing she was paid $250,000 to post about it.<\/p>\n<p>Kardashian has neither admitted to nor denied the SEC\u2019s allegations, but settled the charges and agreed to not promote any cryptocurrency assets until 2025.<\/p>\n<p><template data-name=\"subscription_form\" data-type=\"defi_newsletter\"><\/template><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
