The conglomerate is working to structure reporting lines within the organization with that in mind \u2014\u00a0rather than relying on traditional regional clusters \u2014\u00a0and executives are now sharing additional details of that strategy. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    For example, \u201cpiloting\u201d content from international businesses locally, such as in Britain, with an eye on a possible expansion into other markets, including the U.S., is now a regular goal. \u201cI was talking to Ben Frow who runs programming for [U.K. broadcast network] Channel 5,\u201d Paramount CEO Bob Bakish told <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>. \u201cHis thesis is \u2026 the real opportunity is about piloting in the U.K. as a step towards a global franchise, not necessarily trying to launch a global franchise out of the gate,\u201d which has often proven difficult. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    He pointed to CBS\u2019 season 2 of the BBC remake <em>Ghosts<\/em>. \u201cIt does come out of the U.K., so that\u2019s an example, even if it wasn\u2019t an in-house example,\u201d Bakish said. \u201cBut it\u2019s an example of essentially piloting a show, making it for the U.K. and then upscaling it. So I think that\u2019s probably the nearer-term opportunity. I think Ben is probably right. And the good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> is, they are now having a conversation with that end in mind, versus it randomly happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cThey,\u201d in this case, includes\u00a0Pam Kaufman, president and CEO of international markets, global consumer products &amp; experiences, and\u00a0the executives overseeing the company\u2019s big free-to-air TV networks in the U.S. (CBS), Australia (Network 10), the U.K. (Channel 5), Argentina (Telefe) and Chile (Chilevision), who spoke during a recent \u201cBob Live,\u201d a regular <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of internal Paramount events for employees that feature Bakish and other execs talking about their businesses. Those execs include George Cheeks, president and CEO of CBS and chief content officer of news and sports at Paramount+, Maria Kyriacou, who has served as Paramount\u2019s\u00a0president of Australia, Canada, Israel and the U.K. but is now overseeing all of Paramount\u2019s internationally originated scripted content and its four free-to-air networks outside the U.S., and Dario Turovelzky, who is leading Paramount\u2019s scripted content from Latin America along with Telefe and Chilevision, reporting to Kyriacou.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Bakish said when he was the company\u2019s international CEO \u2014 he led Viacom International <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Networks from 2011 to 2016 \u2014\u00a0the top leadership in the U.S. wasn\u2019t fully ready for a global approach to free-to-air, cable and streaming businesses.\u00a0\u201cThe big difference is that our team called something \u2018glocal\u2019 back then, part global, part local, but it really wasn\u2019t. It was international and local. So I had this international layer, because the U.S. guys didn\u2019t care about international. Today, we have an aligned leadership team, and we are going after things globally. So the time has come to actually really do global leadership of free-to-air, streaming and cable networks, combined with local execution,\u201d Bakish described.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    For the refocus, he had a key ally in Kaufman, whom he tapped for her new role in late July and who knew the new formula from experience. \u201cThe company was historically run by geography. We\u00a0had a Latin America business, a Europe business, an Asia business etc. And that was a great business decision at the time. However, the industry has evolved,\u201d Kaufman told <em>THR<\/em>. \u201cOur operating model for the consumer products business has been truly global for years, with leaders in every key market who ladder up to centralized business leaders. This structure works. It has delivered tremendous results.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    So, when she and Bakish first spoke about her expanded role leading the international markets, \u201cwe immediately talked about bringing the same structure to our broader business,\u00a0working together to\u00a0unify the\u00a0business segments and\u00a0organization even more across countries and cultures.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    After all, Kaufman said, at Paramount Global \u201cwe really value international content, and we also have our globally recognized powerhouse franchises like <em>Star Trek<\/em>, <em>SpongeBob<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Paw\u00a0Patrol<\/em>, <em>Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles<\/em> and so forth that fans around the world love, and hits like\u00a0<em>Yellowstone<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Tulsa King<\/em> with globally recognized superstars like Sylvester Stallone, and the upcoming <em>1923<\/em>. We also have amazing formats, like\u00a0<em>NCIS<\/em>, <em>The Challenge<\/em>, and MTV\u2019s <em>Shore<\/em> franchise \u2013 these\u00a0series\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> well around the world,\u00a0and\u00a0they also make great local content.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    At the same time, such internationally originated content that will or has traveled to the U.S. includes <em>Los Enviados<\/em>\u00a0from Paramount+ Mexico (which aired as <em>The Envoys<\/em> in the U.S. on Paramount+, with season 1 becoming the most-watched Spanish-language series on the streamer), <em>A Gentleman in Moscow<\/em>\u00a0(U.K.) and\u00a0<em>Yonder<\/em>\u00a0(South Korea).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    But there is room for more programming to travel from and to various places as long as executives keep an eye out for opportunities, Kaufman said. The name of the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> in the globalized and streaming age is one that is often is associated with acquisitions. \u201cThis is all about leveraging our scale,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Across the industry, traditionally, \u201cit was kind of like: \u2018good luck over there in England or Australia\u2019,\u201d Kaufman told <em>THR<\/em>. \u201cNow, great content is great content, no matter where it originated, and international content is more popular than ever in the U.S. If a series is working outside the U.S., whether it\u2019s from the U.K., Australia or\u00a0Mexico, it has the ability to travel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    This is why the company now has global business leaders. Tom Ryan, for example, oversees global streaming, with executives\u00a0like Paramount+ international chief Marco Nobili and Pluto TV international head Olivier Jollet reporting into Ryan and Kaufman. Meanwhile, Cheeks runs the company\u2019s global broadcast operation,\u00a0with Kyriacou overseeing the free-to-air networks outside the U.S., reporting into Cheeks and Kaufman.\u00a0Chris McCarthy leads\u00a0the MTV brands and networks globally along with Showtime,\u00a0with Kelly Bradshaw responsible for international markets.\u00a0And\u00a0Brian Robbins oversees Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon globally, in addition to all kids content across streaming, with Jules Borkent responsible for Nickelodeon in international markets.\u00a0\u201cWe are all working incredibly closely together to bring this unified, global strategy to life,\u201d said Kaufman.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content-image \/\/  \">\n<figure class=\"o-figure   size-large alignnone lrv-u-max-width-100p\" style=\"width:100%; max-width:2063px;\">\n<div class=\"c-lazy-image  \">\n<div class=\"lrv-a-crop-16x9\" style=\"padding-bottom:calc((1531\/2063)*100%);\">\n<p>                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/ParamountOrgChart_illo_w.jpg?w=2063\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/ParamountOrgChart_illo_w.jpg 2063w, https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/ParamountOrgChart_illo_w.jpg?resize=1500,1113 1500w\" data-lazy-sizes=\"(min-width: 87.5rem) 1000px, (min-width: 78.75rem) 681px, (min-width: 48rem) 450px, (max-width: 48rem) 250px\" height=\"1531\" width=\"2063\" decoding=\"\"\/><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cWe are leveraging the power of one Paramount and our global footprint to broaden reach and fulfill our mission of entertaining the planet,\u201d said Ryan. \u201cInternationally beloved franchises, such as <em>Star Trek<\/em>, <em>Top Gun<\/em> and <em>Paw Patrol<\/em> play an important role in driving subscriber acquisition in new markets. However, engagement and retention require a programming mix inclusive of international originals [Paramount+ this summer set the goal of commissioning 150 international originals by 2025], such as <em>The Envoys<\/em>, regionalized versions of hit series, such as <em>The Challenge: War of Worlds<\/em>, and local live events and sports, such as the MTV EMAs and UEFA\u201d soccer matches.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Leveraging movies across countries and platforms is also key. \u201cA powerful franchise is like a beacon that draws in loyal and passionate audiences from around the world and can build brands and grow platforms globally,\u201d said Brian Robbins, president and CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, as well as chief content officer, movies &amp; kids &amp; family at Paramount+. \u201cAs examples, both <em>Paw Patrol<\/em> and <em>Sonic<\/em> drive momentum and growth as they journey from platform to platform and market to market, where they keep building their reach and popularity ten-fold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Paramount\u2019s TV operations have also hunted for opportunities for global success stories. \u201cWith our new global approach, local hits can quickly be transformed into global hit franchises, allowing us to capitalize on our local content teams to serve as global development \u2013 this new approach enables us to move faster, more efficiently and have a higher hit ratio,\u201d said Chris McCarthy, president\/CEO of Paramount Media Networks &amp; MTV Entertainment Studios. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    In free-to-air TV, the new approach required a big change though. \u201cOur free-to-air business is really strong,\u201d Kaufman highlighted. \u201cWe have some of the biggest channels in the world with Chilevision, Telefe, Channel 5, Network 10\u00a0and, of course, CBS. But they were very separate in the way the content was rolled out and decisions were made. So, we unified our free-to-air business under George Cheeks, one of the best leaders in the business. His remit is to not just run the business globally, but also to make sure that we are focused on how we are sharing our content and resources.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Explained Cheeks: \u201cWe are building a framework and strategy for our five free-to-air-networks to work together across entertainment, news and sports to scale more content with local focus and global potential. We\u2019re looking at global IP development, franchise expansion, production hubs and joint content acquisitions, to name just a few areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Bakish lauded his leaders for being ready and eager to take such a global view. \u201cRight now, we\u2019re looking at an amazing show that is popping in Argentina and determining what other countries and platforms we can bring it to,\u201d Kaufman said without providing further details. \u201cThat kind of content migration is a priority. Everyone holds up <em>Squid Game<\/em> as the gold standard. We have incredible international dramas in the pipeline, and our intention is to bring more of them to Paramount+ in multiple markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Asked about the benefits of making content that can travel beyond single markets at a time when Paramount is expanding its international original output, the Paramount CEO explained:\u00a0\u201cWe will have an idea and we know that it has a next iteration, and we plan for that.
