They\u2019re developing a single open-source stack that enables developers to build compatible cross-platform devices. Imagine, for example, an Amazon device that integrates with Google Home or <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le Home Kit.<\/p>\n<p>Since its launch, it has been well-received by hardware makers. 190 products have received certification or are queued for testing and certification. There have been 4,400 downloads of the new Matter specification and 2,500 downloads of the Matter software development kit (SDK) from <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/project-chip\/connectedhomeip\">GitHub<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Crucially, Matter not only benefits established large IoT companies, but also offers huge opportunities for startups. It exposes them to a network of established manufacturers and also helps them increase their market position by developing products that consumers actually want. And, more importantly, products they actually use. Ali Ganjavian is CEO at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/moggie.me\/\">Moggie<\/a>. Ganjavian believes that Matter provides a great opportunity by design to collaborate, bringing together smaller startups and integrating products, \u201cconsequently creating a larger IoT ecosystem and enriching the user experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Imagine, for example, if your pet tracker could identify that your cat is sleeping more (and potentially bored) and trigger connected toys to keep it more active during the day? Or identify that your cat is drinking more water than usual and get Alexa to call the vet for an appointment. None of this would be possible without interoperability.<\/p>\n<p>Ganjavian asserts that without this collaborative ecosystem, the only thing that would make IoT interoperable would be a legal prerequisite.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Improving_home_sustainability\"><\/span>Improving home sustainability<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Matter comes at an opportune time for startups making smart home products that reduce energy consumption, such as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vilisto.de\/en\/\">Vilisto\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0self-learning smart thermostats. A smart thermostat learns your behaviours and heating\/cooling preferences for the optimal temperature. Co-founder Karolina Attspodina told me that they design their solar panels with future household integration in mind. Max Melnyk, is the Device Department R&amp;D Director at <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ajax.systems\/\">Ajax Systems<\/a>, the largest security systems manufacturer in Europe. Its product range consists of over 70 wireless and wired devices.<\/p>\n<p>He tells me that while universalization is great for the end user, it may prove more challenging when your devices use proprietary protocols. Ajax, primarily a security system, relies on its proprietary protocol, Jeweller. It provides the system with advanced anti-sabotage features, a range of up to 2000m, and high energy efficiency, as \u201cbatteries in Ajax wireless detectors live up to 5-7 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, he concedes that the company will observe the situation and \u201csee whether Matter will become the de facto standard for the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Overall, I think it\u2019s going to take some time for the Matter to reach its full potential, it\u2019s still only open to a handful of specific types of connected devices after all.
