begun its operation in Cottingham, UK.<\/p>\n<p>The system \u2014 which is the largest\u00a0by megawatts per hour \u2014 aims to store electricity generated from renewable sources, such as wind turbines and solar farms, before releasing it at times of high customer demand.<\/p>\n<p>The so-called \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.harmonyenergy.co.uk\/general\/harmony-energy-income-trust-brings-europes-largest-battery-energy-storage-system-online\/\">Pillswood project<\/a>\u201d was developed by North Yorkshire renewable power firm <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heitp.co.uk\/\">Harmony Energy Income Trust<\/a> and uses Autobidder, Tesla\u2019s algorithmic trading platform.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inarticle-wrapper channel-cta\">\n<div class=\"ica-text\">\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Join_TNW_in_Valencia\"><\/span>Join TNW in Valencia!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The heart of tech is coming to the heart of the Mediterranean<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>According to the company, the facility has the capacity to store up to 196MWh of electricity in a single cycle, making it able to power around 300,000 UK homes for two hours.<\/p>\n<p>The facility has been launched four months ahead of schedule in order to The Pillswood project is only the latest (and probably most impressive) amongst <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hivepower.tech\/blog\/top-battery-storage-projects-in-europe-to-look-out-for-in-2022\">the battery storage systems either in the works or already operating in the continent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Energy storage is also gaining momentum within the EU bodies.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ease-storage.eu\/category\/esgc\/\">Energy Storage Global Conference 2022<\/a> (ESGC), Maro\u0161 \u0160ef\u010dovi\u010d, Vice-President of the European Commission, acknowledged that energy storage \u201c\u2026will help facilitate the integration of renewables and the electrification of the economy, while increasing the flexibility and security of the energy system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDeployment of energy storage solutions in Europe must accelerate,\u201d he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ease-storage.eu\/news\/energy-storage-gains-momentum\/\">noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And amidst the global energy crisis, it seems that strengthening Europe\u2019s energy independence and strategic autonomy is more crucial than ever.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
