Chapek had formed the division in late 2020 in a bid to streamline the entertainment giant\u2019s business strategy.<\/p>\n<p>In a memo to staffers announcing the shakeup, Iger framed his actions as an effort to restore power to creative executives at Disney \u2013 some of whom had reportedly chafed under the leadership of Chapek and Daniel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to have the new structure in place in the coming months,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/kareem-daniel-exits-walt-disney-bob-iger\/\">Iger wrote in the memo<\/a>. \u201cWithout question, elements of DMED will remain, but I fundamentally believe that storytelling is what fuels this company, and it belongs at the center of how we organize our businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CEO said he had asked other top Disney executives, including Christine McCarthy, Jimmy Pitaro, Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, to collaborate on the \u201cdesign of a new structure that puts more decision-making back in the hands of our creative teams and rationalizes costs.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/Bob-Iger-09.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"Bob Iger\" class=\"wp-image-24745424\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/Bob-Iger-09.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/Bob-Iger-09.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/Bob-Iger-09.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Bob Iger made a surprise return as Disney CEO on Sunday. <\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Iger signed a two-year contract with an annual base salary of $1 million, according to an SEC filing. However, the longtime Disney executive can earn up to $27 million for each of the two years with incentives tied to the company\u2019s financial goals and other metrics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know change can be unsettling, but it is also necessary and even energizing, and so I ask for your patience as we develop a roadmap for this restructuring. By 2017, he rose to serve as president of business operations for Disney\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a> park design team, known as the Imagineers. When Chapek succeeded Iger as Disney CEO in 2020, he elevated Daniel to head up the company\u2019s key business efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is a brilliant executive who has an unbelievable objectivity when it comes to fact-based decision making,\u201d Chapek said of Daniel in a 2020 interview <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-10-13\/disney-s-kareem-daniel-rises-from-an-intern-to-streaming-czar\">with Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As head of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, or DMED, Daniel oversaw the company\u2019s funnel of content, including the streaming services that have become the centerpiece of its long-term strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to Iger\u2019s surprise return, Chapek and his top allies were under immense pressure to right the ship at Disney. The company had plunged more than 40% since January following a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of C-suite failures and middling financial performance.<\/p>\n<p>Concerns about Chapek\u2019s ability to lead grew so pronounced that several top executives, including McCarthy, Disney\u2019s CFO, approached the company\u2019s board of directors to air their grievances, the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/walt-disney-cfo-others-brought-concerns-to-board-over-bob-chapek-11669072222\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Chapek rankled left-leaning employees, including workers at the animation studio Pixar, after he initially stayed silent in response to Florida\u2019s controversial \u201cDon\u2019t Say Gay\u201d bill.<\/p>\n<p>Chapek eventually caved to the pressure and denounced the bill \u2013 a move that angered Florida Gov.
