\n Mayor Bill de Blasio bluntly said he has \u201cno plan\u201d for the return of indoor dining in New York City, citing a link between eating inside and a resurgence of the coronavirus in other parts of the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndoor dining, there\u2019s not a plan right now,\u201d de Blasio said on WNYC\u2019s \u201cThe Brian Lehrer Show\u201d Friday.<\/p>\n

A Manhattan caller named Sharon had asked the mayor if there was any possibility that restaurants would be fully reopened this year. Right now, they\u2019re only allowed to have outdoor seating or takeout.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s not a context for indoor dining. We\u2019re never saying it\u2019s impossible. But we do not, based on what we\u2019re seeing around the world, we do not have a plan for reopening indoor dining in the near term,\u201d de Blasio said.<\/p>\n

He cited COVID-19 resurgences in Hong Kong and Europe linked to the activity.<\/p>\n

Andrew Rigie, head of the NYC Hospitality Alliance, was infuriated by Hizzoner\u2019s answer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s jaw-dropping that there\u2019s no plan for the more than 25,000 eating and drinking places and 300,000 workers in our city,\u201d Rigie said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf there\u2019s no plan to reopen in the near term while the rest of the state is open indoors, what\u2019s the plan to support New York City\u2019s small businesses and workers while they\u2019re shut? Where\u2019s the rent relief?\u201d Rigie asked.<\/p>\n

Some 100 restaurants in Brooklyn and Staten Island are planning a class-action lawsuit to force the mayor and the governor to immedia<\/a>tely reopen their eateries.<\/p>\n

Only about 10,000 of the city\u2019s 25,000 dining establishments are participating in the city\u2019s outdoor dining program, and even with that, 83 percent couldn\u2019t pay their full rent last month, according to a survey by Rigie\u2019s group.<\/p>\n

Over half of the hospitality industry workers in New York are jobless, according to\u00a0Eater.<\/p>\n

City Council Minority Leader Steven Matteo (R-Staten Island) also slammed de Blasio for not even having a timeline while eateries go under.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis administration is going to put restaurants in our city out of business if it does not allow indoor dining. It is absolutely unacceptable that the mayor has no plan and no ideas on how to make this happ<\/a>en,\u201d Matteo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAllow indoor to open now with the proper protocols in place \u2014 restaurants literally cannot afford to wait anymore,\u201d he said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
