That\u2019s curious given that public educators and their defenders in corporate <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> have been claiming for years that CRT is not taught in schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTeaching critical race theory isn\u2019t h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ening in classrooms, teachers say in survey,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/teaching-critical-race-theory-isn-t-happening-classrooms-teachers-say-n1272945\">reported NBC in July 2021<\/a>. The\u00a0Washington Post\u2019s Eugene Robinson in June 2021\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2021\/06\/28\/cold-truth-about-republicans-hot-air-over-critical-race-theory\/\">called the controversy<\/a>\u00a0over CRT \u201cmanufactured,\u201d while his colleague Karen Attiah the same month\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/2021\/06\/27\/texas-critical-race-theory-abbott-educators\/\">called it<\/a>\u00a0\u201chot air.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the narrative has\u00a0evolved. A\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/education\/so-much-buzz-but-what-is-critical-race-theory\">November 2021 PBS report<\/a>, for example, explained, \u201cThere is little to no evidence that critical race theory itself is being taught to K-12 public school students, though some ideas central to it . . . have been.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s na\u00efve if not disingenuous. Few high-schoolers know the names of the philosophical schools of utilitarianism and scientific materialism, but most of them are trained in their premises.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s an added dimension, given that The New York Times\u2019 1619 Project\u2019s curriculum has been disseminated across the country to public schools responsible for teaching millions of students. There are other CRT-friendly public-school curricula: The Southern Poverty Law Center for years has been pushing its \u201cTeaching Hard History\u201d program, which many school districts have adopted, including in my home state of Virginia.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/shutterstock_1908794089.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"children reading\" class=\"wp-image-24754891\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/shutterstock_1908794089.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=2048 2048w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/shutterstock_1908794089.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1536 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/shutterstock_1908794089.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/shutterstock_1908794089.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>\u201cTeaching critical race theory isn\u2019t happening in classrooms, teachers say in survey,\u201d\u00a0reported NBC in July 2021.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Shutterstock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Concerned parents need guides to effectively respond to these \u201canti-racist\u201d curricula, and scholar Mary Grabar has written one: \u201cDebunking the 1619 Project: Exposing the Plan to Divide America.\u201d Grabar, who crossed swords with 1619 Project creator Nikole Hannah-Jones so many times that NHJ blocked her on Twitter, offers a careful rebuke to CRT\u2019s problematic (and often erroneous) claims. Grabar explains: \u201cWe must understand The 1619 Project: its divisive aims and its dishonest methods, its sweeping historical misjudgments and its blatant errors of fact. And we must drive its lies and its poisonous race-baiting out of public institutions, beginning with the official curricula of our schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The book\u2019s early chapters deal with the historical inaccuracies and irresponsible reductionism of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2019\/08\/14\/magazine\/1619-america-slavery.html\">original essays in The\u00a0New York Times Magazine<\/a>. (Tellingly, a lot of the project\u2019s language was deleted or changed following public outcry and critiques from respected professional historians who said the authors had replaced history with ideology.) For example, put on the defensive by backlash to her claims that 1619, not 1776, is America\u2019s true founding, NHJ claimed the 1619 Project \u201cdoes not argue that 1619 is our true founding.\u201d Yet\u00a0<em>Hannah-Jones herself<\/em>\u00a0had previously tweeted,\u00a0\u201cI argue that 1619 is our true founding.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>The blatant historical errors have been well covered elsewhere, so I\u2019ll note just a few. The 1619 Project argues the colonies declared independence \u201cto protect the institution of slavery,\u201d though there\u2019s virtually no historical evidence to substantiate that. It asserts American slavery was \u201cunlike anything that had existed in the world before,\u201d though any cursory survey of the ancient world, medieval and post-medieval Africa and the Ottoman Empire puts that idea to rest. Slave traders from the Barbary Coast alone enslaved and brutalized more than 1 million Southern Europeans between 1500 and 1800.<\/p>\n<p>And NHJ fundamentally misreads the effect of the 1857 Dred Scott Supreme Court decision, which, far from \u201censhrining\u201d the idea that blacks are a \u201cslave race,\u201d likely expedited the peculiar institution\u2019s demise, with the Civil War starting only four years later.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDebunking the 1619 Project\u201d\u00a0contains other, perhaps less-well-known information. Contra NHJ\u2019s claims of intellectual novelty, black Americans have been discussing and memorializing the arrival of a Portuguese slave ship at Jamestown in 1619 for more than a century. There\u2019s also the complicated fact many blacks profitably participated as slave owners in the antebellum Southern economy (Grabar doesn\u2019t mention it, but\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/theimaginativeconservative.org\/2020\/07\/native-americans-owned-slaves-peter-partoll.html\">so did many Native Americans<\/a>). That by no means excuses white slaveholders\u2019 sins, but it certainly muddles the Manichaean narratives anti-racist ideologues preach.<\/p>\n<p>Yet there\u2019s another component to this story beyond bad history: NHJ\u2019s and fellow anti-racist pseudo-intellectuals\u2019 self-serving exploitation of the remarkably lucrative grievance industry. She charges about $25,000 per speaking engagement (between September 2019 and February 2021, she made 33 appearances on college campuses, many of them remotely). She not long ago earned a staggering $55,000 for a single speech at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. \u201cWhite Fragility\u201d author Robin DiAngelo charges $30,000 for a 60-to-90-minute speech.<\/p>\n<p>Americans, many motivated by misplaced white guilt, are paying grievance-industry celebrities to inculcate a spirit of resentment, cynicism and victimhood across an entire generation of youth. The data City Journal compiled demonstrates that. So does peer-reviewed research on what students are learning in social-studies classrooms.<\/p>\n<p>Consider one article in the peer-reviewed\u00a0Journal of Social Studies Research. The authors observe a teacher provoke a class discussion on the failure of Galveston, Texas, to heed warnings from Cuba before a 1900 hurricane wrecked the city. \u201cThat was just racist that we didn\u2019t listen to them,\u201d say the students. \u201cGood answers,\u201d the teacher tells them.<\/p>\n<p><em>Adapted from Spectator World.<\/em>\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
