Ten people in the group remained on the ship for further interviews with federal authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Coast Guard spokeswoman Petty Officer Nicole Groll said it was not im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely known how many, if any, of the children were unaccompanied. They ranged in ages \u201cfrom infant to teenager,\u201d Groll told the Miami Herald.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/aol_miami_herald_mcclatchy_670\/fd07e0bf836296d6c983968ab489393e\" alt=\"U.S. federal agents and police search for Haitian migrants after several jumped into the ocean off the Florida Keys.\" data-uuid=\"fa7bccad-791d-3d29-9079-6d45338e9fea\"><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Coast Guard said there were roughly 200 people on the cutter. They were among the Haitians who <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ed on a dilapidated wooden sailboat that the Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border Protection crews first encountered Monday morning about 30 miles off Rodriguez Key near Key Largo. The boat had entered U.S. territorial waters overnight and had become disabled at sea. Federal crews rescued about 100 passengers, including babies.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%E2%80%98This_is_obscene\"><\/span>\u2018This is obscene\u2019<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> of the repatriation has been met with anger by Haitian and immigration activists who say that given the worsening humanitarian and security crisis in Haiti, where a deadly cholera outbreak has been confirmed, it makes no sense to return people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is obscene,\u201d said Gepsie Metellus, executive director of Sant La Neighborhood Center in North Miami. \u201cAt this point and time, the United States has been talking about how the Dominican Republic should not be repatriating Haitians; how they are looking for solutions because Haiti has a hellish situation going on, and now you want to return people?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not going to forget this,\u201d she added. \u201cUnder these circumstances, when 13 years old are being raped and the world is talking about the circumstances in Haiti and you want to repatriate Haitians now? I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s the White House or the State Department that is driving this decision. But whichever it is, we\u2019ve got some obscene people in positions of power that they are abusing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE: U.S. warns darker-skinned Americans may be profiled, detained in the Dominican Republic<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Metellus said with so many children on board the boat, it is obvious their families were attempting to save them. At the very least, she said, the migrants, including the kids, \u201cshould be allowed to stay and be provided humanitarian protections at the very least until the situation in Haiti is a bit clearer. If it were anybody else, they would have been allowed to stay, but not Haitians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Coast Guard took the majority of the Haitians off the vessel in stormy conditions, but the boat proceeded to sail southwest with other migrants on board before eventually beaching on a sandbar just off Windley Key in the Village of Islamorada early Monday evening.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/aol_miami_herald_mcclatchy_670\/5f8a22c36837cdeb924f066435bbc644\" alt=\"More than a dozen Haitian migrants were rescued Monday after they jumped into the ocean near Islamorada off the Florida Keys when their sailboat ran aground.\" data-uuid=\"854914ea-8d45-348e-938e-b8b4a89d98ab\"><figcaption><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When that h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened, about 20 men jumped overboard, creating a chaotic, hours-long search under near pitch-black skies, and fast-moving murky water. Multiple agencies engaged in the search, including the Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, Monroe County Sheriff\u2019s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese people were packed into an overloaded, unsafe vessel without safety equipment,\u201d Lt. C. Box, with Coast Guard District Seven, said in a statement. \u201cThe weather was so bad, these people are lucky we got to them when we did.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/aol_miami_herald_mcclatchy_670\/d28f44fe2a4a4fbbfca5534d8355e902\" alt=\"A Haitian migrant sailboat is beached on a sandbar off Windley Key Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022. But on Thursday, the body of a man dressed in gym shorts and a shirt was found floating about 150 yards off Windley Key.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>No agency had confirmed by Friday evening if the man, who had no identification, was part of the Haitian migrant group.
