Fortunately, a better picture is just a few adjustments away.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Picture_this\"><\/span><strong>Picture this<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you snag a great deal on a fancy new TV. All you have to do is plug it in and start watching your favorite TV shows and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a>. But as soon as you start, you notice that the colors are off or too bright.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It isn\u2019t necessarily the TV\u2019s fault. Any new television can be a disappointment when you first get it home. That\u2019s often because they aren\u2019t always calibrated correctly for your home\u2019s lighting.<\/p>\n<p>It would be even worse if you bought the store\u2019s floor model. Floor models have heavily tweaked saturation and hues designed to catch your eye in fluorescent lighting. Once you get it into standard lighting at home, it looks terrible.<\/p>\n<p>You could pay an expert to set your new TV up, or you can save some money and get great results doing it yourself. Let\u2019s start with a basic setting.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Use_the_display_presets\"><\/span><strong>1. Use the display presets<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Your TV likely has several built-in presets geared to different uses, like movie-watching or sports channels. You can find these in your TV\u2019s picture settings menu. Look in your TV manual to find them.\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.komando.com\/lifestyle-reviews\/thousands-of-free-online-user-manuals\/6037\/\">If you don\u2019t have your manual, tap or click here to find it online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes your new television might have defaults for presets like\u00a0<strong>vivid<\/strong>\u00a0because that gives colors the most pop \u2014 often too much. Many store models use this preset.<\/p>\n<p>For <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> TV viewing, the\u00a0<strong>standard<\/strong>\u00a0preset \u2014 or whatever your TV calls it \u2014 is your best bet. Just making that switch alone can fix a lot of image quality problems.<\/p>\n<p>Try cycling through the other options and see which one you like best. You can also test out settings for different scenarios. You\u2019ll be the one watching it, after all. Settings you can adjust include contrast, hue, brightness, sharpness, and color temperature.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To start, put on a few of your favorite movies with various scenes and lighting. Keep these tips in mind:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be sure to set your room lighting to how it typically is when you watch TV.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure the films include very dark scenes, very light, filled with people, and are extra colorful.<\/li>\n<li>In the dark scenes, adjust the brightness setting so shadows are as black as they can get while still showing detail.<\/li>\n<li>Then head over to a light scene and adjust the contrast up, so the white spaces are as white as possible without blowing out all the detail.<\/li>\n<li>Next, adjust the color temperature until skin tones and colors look natural. If your TV has saturation controls, you can fine-tune how vivid the colors look. You want the sweet spot between \u201cwashed out\u201d and \u201churts your eyes to look at.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once everything looks good, test your settings with a few more movies at different lighting levels in the room. Use a calibration disc<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>To get a more exact calibration, you can use a calibration disc. This walks you through each setting and gives you carefully created visual images to help guide your tweaking. It works well in most cases, but don\u2019t be afraid to change specific settings based on your preference. It\u2019s your TV, so the best picture is the one you like the most.<\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of options for buying a calibration disc.\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3tTd4LO\">You can get this Blu-ray from Spears &amp; Munsil that\u2019s helpful for around $40<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Other_calibration_options\"><\/span><strong>Other calibration options<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>There are other options if you don\u2019t want to purchase a disc. First, check your TV\u2019s manual because you might have a calibration routine built in.<\/p>\n<p>Also, there are some calibration videos on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a> you can load if you have a Smart TV. Search for \u201cAVS HD 709\u201d for a string of them. Of course, they do take a little more work on your part.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to get technical, Netflix has a calibration option. Log in to your Netflix account and visit\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.netflix.com\/title\/70136810\">netflix.com<\/a>. Click\u00a0<strong>My List<\/strong>\u00a0to add this video to your list, then fire up Netflix on your TV and look in your list for\u00a0<strong>Example Short 23.976<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Start the video and fast-forward to the\u00a0<strong>9:40 minute mark<\/strong>. You\u2019ll see color bars to show color saturation, a pattern of circles and boxes to make sure your aspect ratio and sharpness are good (the circles should be perfectly round and the boxes perfectly square) and a grayscale pattern.
