The director of <em>Jaws<\/em>, <em>E.T.<\/em>, <em>Raiders of the Lost Ark<\/em>, <em>Jurassic Park<\/em>, <em>Schindler\u2019s List<\/em>, <em>Saving Private Ryan<\/em> and <em>West Side Story<\/em> is in a class all his own when it comes to the profound, pop-culture-altering impact his <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> have made for decades. But even the 75-year-old maestro subscribes to the notion that each work is an intimate experience for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing more personal than committing to actually directing something,\u201d Spielberg told us ahead of the release of his latest, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/tagged\/the-fabelmans\" data-ylk=\"slk:The Fabelmans\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\"><em>The Fabelmans<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s indisputable that the filmmakers\u2019s 35th feature is his <em>most<\/em> personal work to date. The more-than-semi-autobiographical coming-of-ager follows a young Spielberg \u2014 er, Sammy Fabelman (played as an adolescent by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/tagged\/gabrielle-labelle\" data-ylk=\"slk:Gabriel LaBelle\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Gabriel LaBelle<\/a>) \u2014 as he falls in love with filmmaking as a child, begins directing astounding well-designed home movies as a pre-teen and ultimately, through his camerawork, discovers there could be something percolating between his mother (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/tagged\/michelle-williams\" data-ylk=\"slk:Michelle Williams\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Michelle Williams<\/a>) and the best friend (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/tagged\/seth-rogen\" data-ylk=\"slk:Seth Rogen\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Seth Rogen<\/a>) of his father (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/tagged\/paul-dano\" data-ylk=\"slk:Paul Dano\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Paul Dano<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve never had myself, for such a prolonged period of time, in the actual story,\u201d Spielberg tells us. \u201cAnd that itself was Kafkaesque. \u2026 I never got used to it. It was not comfortable for me. But when [the actors\u2019] mojos were at that critical point where the cast was working so well together, I\u2019d kind of get lost in their performances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I always knew that was about my sisters, and my mom and my dad who are no longer here, and myself. And so there was never a moment I didn\u2019t realize that this was an opportunity that I had taken that I was so grateful for that at my age I finally got the temerity, or the courage, to decide to tell this story now. I wouldn\u2019t have had the distance or the perspective if I had decided to tell this story 30 years ago. It wouldn\u2019t have been the same film.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LaBelle, a 19-year-old Vancouver native, grew up with Spielberg DVDs and <em>Jurassic Park<\/em> and <em>Indiana Jones<\/em> Lego sets in his home. \u201cIt\u2019s mind-blowing. It\u2019s incredibly exciting,\u201d the young actor says of the opportunity to play a slightly fictionalized version of the iconic director. \u201cAnd it\u2019s a huge privilege, honestly. It\u2019s an honor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spending two months with the filmmaker as he delved into his past gave the entire cast the opportunity to learn about Spielberg in a more intimate way than previous ensembles.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"caas-figure\">\n<div class=\"caas-figure-with-pb\" style=\"max-height: 699px\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"caas-img-container caas-img-loader\" style=\"padding-bottom:56%;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"caas-img caas-lazy has-preview\" alt=\"Gabriel LaBelle in &amp;#39;The Fabelmans&amp;#39; (Universal)\" src=\"https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/vIBJDQYOf2FBZxXvr8AO.w--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTEyNDI7aD02OTk-\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/aol_yahoo_movies_304\/d176a2655520af774cde07f1a8c6f4b0\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Gabriel LaBelle in &amp;#39;The Fabelmans&amp;#39; (Universal)\" src=\"https:\/\/s.yimg.com\/ny\/api\/res\/1.2\/vIBJDQYOf2FBZxXvr8AO.w--\/YXBwaWQ9aGlnaGxhbmRlcjt3PTEyNDI7aD02OTk-\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/aol_yahoo_movies_304\/d176a2655520af774cde07f1a8c6f4b0\" class=\"caas-img\"><\/noscript><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"caption-collapse\">Gabriel LaBelle in &#8216;The Fabelmans&#8217; (Photo: Universal)<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI think I was surprised to find what an open vessel he was willing to be with us and our crew and everybody on this film,\u201d says Dano. \u201cI think that\u2019s the thing that really led the way. If Steven can be that sort of vulnerable and open and naked, we\u2019ve got to be, too. So to be with someone who\u2019s an artist who shaped culture yet have this intimacy with him, it was pretty cool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really who he is,\u201d adds Williams. \u201cHe comes as open and as candid and as searching as a person can be. He gives that so generously, so it im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely disarms you. And you realize that he\u2019s searching like we all are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was honestly surprised at how much of a leap he seemed to feel it was to make something that was so outwardly personal,\u201d says Rogen. \u201cAnd it was beautiful that he was willing to do that because it seemed like he was taking a real personal risk in some ways, which is something that when you\u2019re him, you do not need to do. He would go down as one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of cinema having never done something like this that made him clearly feel like he was putting himself out there in a way that he never had before. And it was really inspirational to see someone like him take that on and decide to push themselves in new directions even after they have done so many things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And then there\u2019s what Spielberg learned about himself through such a journey of self-reflection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it was, more than anything else, the fact that I had a very complicated family. And I had a very unique family,\u201d says the director, who credits longtime co-writer Tony Kushner with encouraging him to finally tell his own story. \u201cI mean, the dynamics of my mom\u2019s relationship with my dad\u2019s best friend, and how I discovered things that I would not have discovered had it not been for my obsession with home movies and making 8 MM movies of all our camping <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>s and all of our outings over weekends. I was the videographer of my family, even as a 12-, 13-, 14-, 15-year-old kid. But what\u2019s unique about this is I found out something that suddenly made me look at my mom not as a parent but as a person.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd that shouldn\u2019t h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en when you\u2019re 16 years old. That should be much later, when you have your own kids. You suddenly realize your parents are your peers, not your parents anymore. But too early I discovered that my mom was a human being, and couldn\u2019t hide behind the visage of being a primary caregiver.
