And, now, Eastern Europe is going all in with the rail infrastructure project <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.railbaltica.org\/\">Rail Baltica<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rail Baltica aims to integrate the Baltic States within the European rail network. It\u2019s one of Europe\u2019s most substantial investments to improve mobility and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> options, and it\u2019s the largest Baltic-region infrastructure project in the last 100 years.<\/p>\n<p>The project includes five European Union countries \u2014 Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and, indirectly, Finland. It will connect Helsinki, Tallinn, P\u00e4rnu, Riga, Paneve\u017eys, Kaunas, Vilnius, and Warsaw.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inarticle-wrapper channel-cta\">\n<div class=\"ica-text\">\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Join_TNW_in_Valencia\"><\/span>Join TNW in Valencia!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The heart of tech is coming to the heart of the Mediterranean<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>But it\u2019s more than the construction of a railway \u2014 it\u2019s a platform for connectivity that offers vast economic growth, cross-border innovation, digitalisation, and community development possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>Rail Baltica brings countries together by building missing cross-border connections. Electric trains will run at speeds of 249 km\/h (passengers), 120 km\/h (freight). Unfortunately though, there are no maglev trains here, which typically top 400km\/ph. It avoids protected environmental areas and includes noise protection barriers and special animal passages.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s not just cross-border trains. A commitment to multimodal mobility is embedded in the Rail Baltica project. It includes railway, state and municipal buses, private vehicles and electric vehicles, escooters, and ebicycles, that will connect regionally.<\/p>\n<p>This is a huge opportunity for mobile startups. As well as highly successful <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/bolt.eu\/en\/cities\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bolt<\/span><\/a> (Estonia), these include etricycle makers <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ako.tech\/\">Ako Trike<\/a> (Lithuania), and Estonia\u2019s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/auve.tech\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Auve Tech<\/span><\/a> (Estonia), who make autonomous shuttles. On top of this, goods planned to be sourced from Russia and Belarus cannot be obtained due to sanctions, requiring more expensive imports from other countries.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"An_important_project_during_wartime\"><\/span>An important project during wartime<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Rail transport has always been an important resource for countries like Ukraine, and current geopolitical conditions have increased the strategic significance of the Rail Baltica project both in terms of imports and exports as materials shortages can cripple national economies.<\/p>\n<p>Rail Baltica will contribute to the security of the Baltic States by establishing railway connectivity with their allies in Europe and improving military logistics in the entire region.<\/p>\n<p>In August, the EU\u00a0granted the Latvian government EU funding for the first time to purposely develop transport infrastructure to serve both civil and military needs. Latvian Vice-President Dr Roberts Z\u012ble\u00a0shared\u00a0that military mobility allocation \u201cis no longer discreetly glossed over, as in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cargo rail will be critical in aiding the transport of military goods and materials securely and at speed. Transport Minister T\u0101lis Linkaits sees reliable connectivity with western Europe as critical \u201cto increase our country\u2019s defence capabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Construction of Rail Baltica is poised to start from 2026 to 2030. This project will be beset by challenges, but the benefits it will bring in the long term will be plentiful.
