This includes in the PRC,\u201d a White House National Security Council spokesperson said in a statement, using China\u2019s official acronym.<\/p>\n<p>President Biden\u2019s family has extensive business relationships with Chinese government-linked companies and first son Hunter Biden reportedly still owns a 10% stake in a Chinese state-backed private\u00a0equity\u00a0firm.<\/p>\n<p>The White House statement did not specifically fault the actions of Chinese authorities in its statement, but expressed support for the activists\u2019 underlying objection to Xi\u2019s \u201cCOVID zero\u201d policies aimed at preventing any transmission of the virus.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline-slideshow\" data-component=\"inlineSlideshow\">\n<div class=\"inline-slideshow__wrapper\">\n<div including Wuhan cast off pandemic lockdowns as early as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" This is an investigation of Joe Biden,\u201d\u00a0incoming House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.)\u00a0said at a press conference this month.<\/p>\n<p>House Republicans also plan to investigate the theory that COVID-19 leaked from a Wuhan lab that was doing risky \u201cgain of function\u201d research on coronaviruses. US spy agencies assessed last year that a lab release in Wuhan was\u00a0one of two \u201cplausible\u201d\u00a0explanations for the pandemic\u2019s origins, along with natural animal-to-human transmission, but Biden has said very little about pursuing the matter since then.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignright\">\n    <\/aside>\n<p>Hunter\u00a0Biden cofounded a Chinese state-backed investment fund called\u00a0BHR\u00a0Partners\u00a0in 2013 within weeks of joining then-Vice President Biden aboard Air Force Two on an official <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> to Beijing,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/what-we-know-about-hunter-bidens-dealings-in-china-11570181403\">according to\u00a0the Wall Street Journal<\/a>.\u00a0Hunter\u00a0introduced his dad to incoming\u00a0BHR\u00a0CEO Jonathan Li in a hotel lobby and Joe Biden later wrote\u00a0college recommendation letters\u00a0for Li\u2019s children, according to documents recovered from the first son\u2019s abandoned laptop.<\/p>\n<p>The Journal reported that\u00a0Hunter\u00a0Biden\u2019s \u201cpaid-in capital\u201d to establish the company was $425,000, according to corporate registration records. BHR manages\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bhrpe.com\/list.php?catid=31&amp;page=1\">$2.1\u00a0billion<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0assets and takes a prominent role\u00a0in\u00a0acquiring overseas assets.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout 2021, then-White House press secretary Jen Psaki said\u00a0Hunter\u00a0Biden was still working to\u00a0\u201cunwind\u201d\u00a0his 10% stake in\u00a0BHR.<\/p>\n<p>One week after the president\u2019s November 2021 virtual summit with Xi,\u00a0Hunter\u00a0Biden\u2019s attorney Chris Clark said the stake had been divested. However, online records show that Hunter still holds the interest. Neither Clark\u00a0nor the White House\u00a0would provide further information on the supposed transaction.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016,\u00a0BHR\u00a0Partners\u00a0was influential in facilitating a deal in which a\u00a0Chinese\u00a0firm\u00a0bought a\u00a0Congolese\u00a0cobalt\u00a0mine\u00a0from American and Canadian companies. The transaction gained significant attention last year when it was spotlighted by the New York Times and because\u00a0cobalt\u00a0is an important material for making electric vehicle batteries.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Hunter Biden and his uncle, first brother James Biden,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/30\/hunter-biden-china-laptop\/\">earned $4.8\u00a0million<\/a> from Beijing-linked CEFC China Energy in 2017 and 2018, according to a Washington Post review of Hunter Biden laptop documents. That firm was regarded as an arm of Beijing\u2019s \u201cBelt and Road\u201d foreign influence initiative.<\/p>\n<p>A May 2017 email about the CEFC\u00a0partnership described the \u201cbig guy\u201d as being due a 10% cut.
