His life has had some challenging moments thus far, including a period several years ago when his mom, <strong>Kate Gosselin<\/strong>, put him in an institution to deal with alleged behavioral issues. After leaving treatment, Collin went to live with his father,\u00a0<strong>Jon Gosselin<\/strong>, severing his formerly close connection with his mom completely. Now we\u2019re finally getting an update on where the estranged family members stand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: Kate Was Once\u00a0Accused Of Zip-Tying Collin To Chair &amp; Making Him Sleep In Closet?!<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>On Monday morning, the teenager spoke about his difficult family situation. Sitting down with\u00a0<em>ET<\/em> for an extremely rare interview, Collin got real about what h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened after he was institutionalized. He also sounded remarkably optimistic about where things may go from here.<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-63855540cb58c-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Speaking about his pre-institutionalization experiences with his mom, Collin told the outlet:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cAfter being there, I didn\u2019t have a relationship with her. Even before [being] there, I don\u2019t think we had much of a relationship and I think that just kept tearing it even more down.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>Now, with hindsight, Collin considers his family\u2019s reality TV work to be the root of many issues.\u00a0Speaking about his time on\u00a0<em>Jon &amp; Kate Plus 8<\/em> \u2014 which became\u00a0<em>Kate Plus 8\u00a0<\/em>after Kate divorced Jon and moved on with the show \u2014 Collin said:<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-63855540cb593-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI want to believe [the rift] was because of TV and what being in the public eye does to a family. I think it tore us apart. It gave us less time to actually be together as a family, more time to be in the public eye.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Inneresting. We don\u2019t often think of it this way, but reality TV can be more of a production atmosphere that <em>replaces<\/em> actual family ties.<\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>Collin got reflective about his younger years, telling the outlet on Monday that he thought his life experiences were \u201cworse than\u201d what the average teenager goes through. He explained his theories as to why, too. And it all comes back to Kate\u2026<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-63855540cb599-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Related: Jon Shares Rare Photo Of Teens Hannah &amp; Collin Together In High School<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to the 18-year-old, his famous momma had \u201cher own agenda\u201d to push while all eight children were growing up:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt was worse than what you would say the average teenage kid goes through with their parent.\u00a0I came to the conclusion that everybody has their own agenda, you know? My mom had her own agenda, and I don\u2019t know exactly what that was. But I was put in a tough spot and my agenda was to make it out on top of that tough spot.\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-63855540cb59e-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"highlight\">Oof.<\/p>\n<p>But through it all, Collin is optimistic. In fact, he told\u00a0<em>ET<\/em> that it \u201cwould be ideal\u201d for him to rekindle a relationship with Kate again at some point in the future:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate that we didn\u2019t have a relationship. I think every son wants to have a relationship with their mom. But I\u2019m doing very well.\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-63855540cb5ad-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Acting in ways wise beyond his years, the teen concluded with some sage advice:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIn life we all go through hard things. We all get knocked down, we all experience really, really difficult things. But don\u2019t sit around and mourn and cry about it. Address the situation you\u2019re in and fix it and come out on top of it.
