In October, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/vogue.ph\/fashion\/designer-profile\/demna-gvasalia-vogue-forces-of-fashion\/\">he told Vogue<\/a>, \u201cFashion should not please. The most important quality is the lack of fear because fear blocks creativity, and if you\u2019re trying to please, you\u2019re never going to make it. You should not please.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Experts likewise question Balenciaga\u2019s claim that it never approved the ads. Another recent ad for a purse depicted a messy desk with papers strewn everywhere, including a Supreme Court decision on child pornography, eagle-eyed <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> investigators found.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if by some remote chance, these ads weren\u2019t sanctioned by people with authority at Balenciaga, that in itself speaks to a weak internal structure of checks and balances,\u201d said Gary Wassner, chief executive of Hilldun Corp., a lender to the fashion industry.<\/p>\n<p>By involving children, \u201cThey pushed provocation too far,\u201d Wassner added. \u201cCompromising children tends to offend everyone.\u00a0And once the ads are out there, there\u2019s no turning back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Balenciaga\u2019s owner Kering will likely never disclose whether its sales were hurt, experts said.\u00a0And it\u2019s still too early to know the full extent of the public relations debacle.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/balenciaga-71-store-with-purses.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"A Balenciaga store with purses on display.\" class=\"wp-image-24813020\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/balenciaga-71-store-with-purses.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1535 1536w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/balenciaga-71-store-with-purses.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all 1024w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/11\/balenciaga-71-store-with-purses.jpg?quality=75&amp;strip=all&amp;w=512 512w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><figcaption>Balenciaga\u2019s creative director is known for pushing the envelope.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Jeffrey Greenberg\/Universal Imag<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But as with other fashion brands that crossed a line \u2014 including a backlash in China against Dolce &amp; Gabbana\u2019s 2018 ad depicting a model struggling to use chopsticks and speaking in an exaggerated Chinese accent \u2014 an apology will be insufficient, according to experts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Dolce screwed up in China with inappropriate content, the impact was enormous financially,\u201d Wassner said. \u201cTheir ad was insulting and discriminatory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following the D&amp;G ad, media influencers posted images of themselves destroying the brand\u2019s products.
