Nifty News: China\u2019s lockdown protest NFTs emerge, Candy Digital cuts staff, and more &#8220;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<div class=\"post-content\" data-v-b8b12140>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Chinas_COVID-19_protests_cemented_as_NFTs\"><\/span>China\u2019s COVID-19 protests cemented as NFTs<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Nonfungible tokens (NFTs) depicting the ongoing protests in China against the country\u2019s tough zero-tolerance COVID-19 policy have found their way to the NFT marketplace OpenSea.<\/p>\n<p>At least two collections have been created in November, the first is a Polygon (MATIC)-based collection called \u201cSilent Speech\u201d featuring 135 NFTs depicting images of protesters, signage, graffiti and even <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> screenshots related to the ongoing protests up for auction starting at 0.01 Ether (ETH), or just under $11.50.<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.cointelegraph.com\/uploads\/2022-11\/b520ea44-68e8-47a6-8ed7-f4cc3e16a62f.png\"><figcaption style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>A Silent Speech NFT titled \u201cBeihang University\u201d (translated) shows an  image of multiple tealight candles within surgical masks. Candles are an often used symbol of remembrance.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another collection titled \u201cBlank Paper Movement\u201d of 36 Ethereum-based NFTs with a floor price of 10 ETH, or nearly $11,800, features a more artistic take as the images of the protests <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears to be painted.<\/p>\n<p>Holding a blank sheet of paper has emerged as a symbol representing the suppression of speech in the rare and widespread protests which have flared up across China since Nov. 14, starting with residents of Guangzhou, one of China\u2019s biggest cities, tearing down police barricades in response to COVID-19 related measures.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Demonstrators in Beijing hold blank pieces of paper in a rally against the communist government.<br \/>This idea developed during a student movement by a group of high school students in HK. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/jRmnQ50Mlz\">pic.twitter.com\/jRmnQ50Mlz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \u9109\u6e2f (@sabaocean) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sabaocean\/status\/1597339968472743936?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 28, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The protests intensified on Nov. 24 as a fire that day in a high-rise building in the northeastern city of Urumqi killed 10 people. <\/p>\n<p>Some Chinese internet users believe residents weren\u2019t able to escape due to extreme lockdown measures which have included authorities wiring or welding doors shut.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Candy_Digital_lays_off_100_staff\"><\/span>Candy Digital lays off 100 staff\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>NFT company Candy Digital has reportedly laid off a sizeable portion of its workforce amid turbulent crypto market conditions and a massive dip in NFT trading volumes this year.<\/p>\n<p>More than one-third of the company\u2019s roughly 100 employees were cut according to a Nov. 28 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportico.com\/business\/tech\/2022\/candy-digital-layoffs-nfts-1234696807\/\">report<\/a> from the sports industry outlet Sportico.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear the reason for the layoffs and if any particular departments were affected as Candy Digital has not publicly addressed the layoffs.
